# frontier-digest

Scans AI and harness-engineering sources, then turns current developments into ideas for forge-harness. Run it when you want a focused update on what’s changing.

## What it does

The skill gathers material from Hacker News, arxiv, TLDR AI, GeekNews, Launch YC, Product Hunt, Show HN, and vendor changelogs. It distills the findings into notable developments, possible applications for forge-harness, and warning signals. Collection methods vary by source and include APIs, RSS and Atom feeds, and vendor pages.

For synthesis, the skill checks for `/deep-research` first, then for `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`, which enables Claude Sonnet. If neither route is available, it switches to WebSearch. The API-backed synthesis is limited to 400 characters. Add `--save` to write the result to `{FH}/tracks/_meta/frontier_digest_{YYYY_MM_DD}.md`. Without `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`, the Claude Sonnet route is unavailable.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill frontier-digest -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/frontier-digest/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/frontier-digest/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill frontier-digest -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/frontier-digest/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill frontier-digest -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/frontier-digest/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install chrono-meta/forge-harness frontier-digest
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/frontier-digest/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill frontier-digest -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/chrono-meta/forge-harness --path plugins/fh-meta/skills/frontier-digest
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/frontier-digest/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add chrono-meta/forge-harness --skill frontier-digest -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/chrono-meta/forge-harness/tree/HEAD/plugins/fh-meta/skills/frontier-digest/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- gather recent AI and agent-engineering updates from multiple feeds
- turn new developments into forge-harness application ideas
- flag risks in current AI and harness developments
- write a dated digest to a file

## Example prompts
- Give me a digest of recent AI trends and their relevance to forge-harness.
- Run `/frontier-digest --save` and write the digest to a file.
- Find recent harness-improvement ideas and call out warning signals.

# frontier-digest — FH Frontier Insight Collection & Synthesis

> Automatically collects the latest AI/agent/harness engineering trends from HackerNews, arxiv, launch channels, GeekNews and vendor changelogs,
> then compresses and synthesizes them into insights directly relevant to forge-harness skills and structure.

## Triggers

```
/frontier-digest                # immediate execution
/frontier-digest --save         # save result to file
"what's on the frontier"
"this week's AI trends"
"harness trends"
"latest agent developments"
"any ideas for improving the harness?"
```

## Step 0. API Environment Detection

This is the trend-scan specialization (rung 3) of the **Deep-Research Capability Ladder**
(`../../../../knowledge/shared/harness-core/deep_research_capability_ladder.md`). The ladder owns
the **cross-rung routing** (when a task is trend-scan at all vs general research); the `Priority:`
block below is frontier-digest's own **internal engine resolution** for the HN/arxiv case (API-key
vs WebSearch) — a narrower detection, not a re-definition of the cross-rung ladder.

```
Priority:
0. /deep-research built-in available (check live session skill list)
   → use it as the collection+verification engine (staged source gathering,
     cross-checking, cited synthesis) — Tier-0 route, no API key needed
1. ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable → Claude Sonnet
2. Neither → WebSearch mode (raw data only, no synthesis)
```

Report detection result in one line. Example: `🔑 Using Claude Sonnet` / `🔑 Engine: /deep-research (built-in)`

On first run without an API key, output the environment setup guide (format in §Output-Formats).

---

## Step 0.5. Operator Intake (speculative-interview arm — walled channels)

On **cadence-triggered** runs (7d), ask the operator one line before collecting:

> *"이번 주에 본 벽 뒤 소스(YouTube·LinkedIn·X 등 기계가 못 닿는 링크/요약)가 있으면 던져 주세요 — triage해서 기록합니다. 없으면 그냥 진행할게요."*

- Operator may skip — zero pressure; the autonomous arms (Step 1) run regardless.
- Why: walled channels return 403 to machine fetch — **the operator is the only wide-net sensor for them**. This arm turns ad-hoc link-throwing into a scheduled intake (manual-validated n=2).
