# frontend-visual-qa

Checks the interface you can actually see in a real browser: typography, overflow, responsive layout, routes, charts. Useful right after UI work, when the build passes but nobody looked.

## What it does

The skill runs on one rule: look first, trust later. A green build, elements present in the DOM and screenshot files nobody opened are supporting signals, never visual proof. The audit drives real browser and native-app journeys plus a Playwright sweep.

Before anything runs, it picks the narrowest profile that covers the request: core visual, responsive, state and journey, browser output (download, print, PDF), native shell, page contract, reference parity or data visualization. Profiles stay separate unless the changed surface really spans them — a local line-break review has no business going through auth, maps and export checks. Markdown and Obsidian notes pull in a separate reference for figure readability.

By default the skill audits only. It does not edit implementation, add tests, install dependencies or update snapshots unless you explicitly ask for a fix. Permission to change source code does not authorize rebuilding, restarting or deploying the target. That default is worth knowing on a large repo: it keeps the audit from turning into an unrequested commit, and it means fixes need a separate ask.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright, Obsidian

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill frontend-visual-qa -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/frontend-visual-qa/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/frontend-visual-qa/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill frontend-visual-qa -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/frontend-visual-qa/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill frontend-visual-qa -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/frontend-visual-qa/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daymade/claude-code-skills frontend-visual-qa
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/frontend-visual-qa/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill frontend-visual-qa -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daymade/claude-code-skills --path frontend-visual-qa
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/frontend-visual-qa/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill frontend-visual-qa -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/daymade/claude-code-skills/tree/HEAD/frontend-visual-qa/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- catch overflow and clipped text on the real render
- check layout across breakpoints and mobile alternatives
- walk conditional branches and error recovery paths
- verify download, print and PDF output against the screen
- compare a render against a reference screenshot

## Example prompts
- visually audit the /dashboard page after the latest changes
- run responsive and state checks on the checkout form
- compare the current render with the reference screenshot

# Frontend Visual QA

Audit the interface the user can actually see. Treat build success, DOM presence,
and uninspected screenshot files as supporting signals, never as visual proof.

Default to **audit-only**. Do not edit implementation, add tests, install
dependencies, or update snapshots unless the user explicitly asks to fix or
change the UI. Permission to fix source does not authorize rebuilding,
restarting, or deploying any target.

## Scope And Routing

Use this skill only after a rendered artifact exists. Select the smallest audit
profile that covers the request:

- **core visual** — composition, typography, spacing, wrapping, clipping, images;
- **responsive** — breakpoints, reflow, mobile alternatives, scroll ownership;
- **state and journey** — conditional branches, transitions, recovery, routes;
- **browser output** — download, share, clipboard, popup, file dialog, print, PDF;
- **native shell** — Electron or hybrid chrome, permissions, drag regions, IPC UI;
- **page contract** — dashboard/admin, landing/deck, design-system artifact,
  browser tool/game, map/GIS, or review tool;
- **reference parity** — comparison with a named screenshot, product, or tier;
- **data visualization** — chart hierarchy, tokens, semantics, and accessibility.

For a specific task/object link handoff, select **state and journey** for that
destination, including authoritative machine and run/job identity when titles
repeat. Keep the audit bounded to the promised destination.
