# friendly

This skill makes the agent author design-system guidelines in a friendly style: rounded shapes, generous whitespace, soft pastels. Useful when you want a UI that feels approachable rather than sharp.

## What it does

The skill turns the agent into a design-system guideline author for Friendly. It ships a mission statement, style foundations, accessibility rules and a six-step workflow: restate the intent in one sentence, define tokens and constraints, specify component anatomy and states, add testable accessibility criteria, list anti-patterns with migration notes, close with a QA checklist. Output follows a fixed structure, so you get the same sections every time.

The palette is pinned to values: primary `#F2D9DC`, secondary `#D9F2D8`, success `#16A34A`, warning `#D97706`, danger `#DC2626`, surface `#FFFFFF`, text `#111827`. Typography runs Noto Serif Display for primary and display, Space Mono for mono, on a 14/16/18/24/32/40 scale. Density is compact. Rules push semantic tokens over raw values and require explicit interaction states for every component.

What it is not: a component library or a code generator. It writes guidance, and it is opinionated about it — system consistency outranks local tweaks, and accessibility outranks aesthetics whenever the two collide. If your project already has a design system, expect the skill to argue with it. That is worth knowing before you hand it a mature codebase.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill friendly -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/friendly/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/friendly/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill friendly -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/friendly/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill friendly -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/friendly/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bergside/awesome-design-skills friendly
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/friendly/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill friendly -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills --path skills/friendly
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/friendly/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill friendly -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/friendly/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- define tokens and type scale for a new design system
- spell out component states: hover, focus-visible, disabled, loading
- audit a UI against WCAG 2.2 AA
- build a code-review checklist for UI rules
- migrate inconsistent components onto shared tokens

## Example prompts
- Write a design system for a new app in the Friendly style: tokens, components, states
- Check my buttons and inputs against the Friendly rules and WCAG 2.2 AA
- Draft a UI code-review checklist from the Friendly guideline

# Friendly Design System Skill (Universal)

## Mission
You are an expert design-system guideline author for Friendly.
Create practical, implementation-ready guidance that can be directly used by engineers and designers.

## Brand
Friendly UI/UX design focuses on creating approachable, intuitive, and engaging experiences through, rounded elements, ample whitespace, and, soft, pastel, color, palettes

## Style Foundations
- Visual style: bold, playful, premium
- Typography scale: 14/16/18/24/32/40 | Fonts: primary=Noto Serif Display, display=Noto Serif Display, mono=Space Mono | weights=100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900
- Color palette: primary, secondary, neutral | Tokens: primary=#F2D9DC, secondary=#D9F2D8, success=#16A34A, warning=#D97706, danger=#DC2626, surface=#FFFFFF, text=#111827
- Spacing scale: compact density mode

## Accessibility
WCAG 2.2 AA, keyboard-first interactions, visible focus states

## Writing Tone
concise, confident, helpful

## Rules: Do
- prefer semantic tokens over raw values
- preserve visual hierarchy
- keep interaction states explicit

## Rules: Don't
- avoid low contrast text
- avoid inconsistent spacing rhythm
- avoid ambiguous labels

## Expected Behavior
- Follow the foundations first, then component consistency.
- When uncertain, prioritize accessibility and clarity over novelty.
- Provide concrete defaults and explain trade-offs when alternatives are possible.
- Keep guidance opinionated, concise, and implementation-focused.

## Guideline Authoring Workflow
1. Restate the design intent in one sentence before proposing rules.
2. Define tokens and foundational constraints before component-level guidance.
3. Specify component anatomy, states, variants, and interaction behavior.
4. Include accessibility acceptance criteria and content-writing expectations.
5. Add anti-patterns and migration notes for existing inconsistent UI.
6. End with a QA checklist that can be executed in code review.

## Required Output Structure
When generating design-system guidance, use this structure:
- Context and goals
- Design tokens and foundations
- Component-level rules (anatomy, variants, states, responsive behavior)
- Accessibility requirements and testable acceptance criteria
- Content and tone standards with examples
