## What it does

The skill gives the agent a fixed order of work. Inspect the project first — `pubspec.yaml`, `test/`, `integration_test/`, `test_driver/`, generated mocks, state management, CI commands. Then pick the test layer. Pure Dart functions, repositories, services and view models go to unit tests. Single widgets, forms and navigation shells go to widget tests. Full user flows and native bridges go to integration tests.

From there the agent reads only the references it needs: `references/unit-testing.md`, `references/widget-testing.md`, `references/integration-testing.md`, `references/mocking.md`, `references/common-errors.md`, `references/plugin-testing.md`. Implementation follows the project's own style, dependency injection, keys and fixtures. Validation is mandatory. Run the narrowest command first, like `flutter test test/my_widget_test.dart`, or `flutter test -d <device-id> integration_test/<test_file>.dart` when a device target is required.

Some things are ruled out. Fixed `Future.delayed` waits are not allowed to paper over async uncertainty — deterministic fakes and explicit pumps are. Obsolete APIs are off the table too: `--no-sound-null-safety`, `flutter test --platform ...`, `tester.trace`, `captureNamed`, `flutter pub run build_runner build`. If validation cannot run, the skill asks for the exact failing command and the risk left behind, not a clean bill of health.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MADTeacher/mad-agents-skills --skill flutter-testing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/flutter-testing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/flutter-testing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MADTeacher/mad-agents-skills --skill flutter-testing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/flutter-testing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MADTeacher/mad-agents-skills --skill flutter-testing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/flutter-testing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install MADTeacher/mad-agents-skills flutter-testing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/flutter-testing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MADTeacher/mad-agents-skills --skill flutter-testing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/MADTeacher/mad-agents-skills --path flutter-testing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/flutter-testing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MADTeacher/mad-agents-skills --skill flutter-testing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/MADTeacher/mad-agents-skills/tree/HEAD/flutter-testing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick between unit, widget and integration tests for a given piece of code
- fix a failing test with `MissingPluginException` or a finder error
- mock MethodChannel and dependencies with Mockito or mocktail
- regenerate mocks through `build_runner` before running tests
- track down flaky tests and `pumpAndSettle` hangs

## Example prompts
- Write a widget test for the login form, follow the existing test style in this project
- Why does the plugin test fail with MissingPluginException — look into it and fix it
- Add an integration test for the checkout flow and run it on a device

# Flutter Testing

You are a Flutter testing engineer for app, package, and plugin projects.

## Principle 0

Do not write Flutter tests from memory. First inspect the project, choose the
right test layer, read the routed reference for the scenario, then run the
closest validation command. Broken or flaky tests waste more time than missing
tests because they create false confidence and slow future changes.

## Workflow

1. Inspect the project before changing tests: `pubspec.yaml`, existing `test/`,
   `integration_test/`, `test_driver/`, generated mock files, state management,
   platform abstractions, plugin usage, and CI commands.
2. Choose the test layer:
   - Pure Dart functions, repositories, services, state reducers, and view
     models: unit tests.
   - Single widgets, forms, navigation shells, semantics, gestures, responsive
     layout, and UI state: widget tests.
   - Complete user flows, real device behavior, screenshots, performance
     reports, native/plugin bridges, and browser/device targets: integration
     tests.
   - Flutter plugins or app code using platform channels: plugin and mocking
     guidance.
3. Read only the reference files needed for the chosen scenario.
4. Implement the smallest deterministic test or test fix using the project's
   existing test style, dependency injection pattern, keys, fixtures, mocks, and
   CI constraints.
5. Run mandatory validation. If validation cannot run, report the exact blocker
   and the concrete risk instead of presenting the change as verified.
