## What it does

This skill feeds the agent concrete flexlayout-react patterns. It covers building a model with `Model.fromJson()`, wrapping the app in the `Layout` component, writing a factory that maps a component name to a panel, and persisting state with `model.toJson()`. Layouts can nest rows and columns, and border areas hold panels on the edges.

Reach for it when the UI should feel like an IDE, a dashboard builder or an admin panel where users rearrange panes themselves. The skill only guides the agent — the components stay yours.

The library itself is a separate install: `npm install flexlayout-react`. Styles ship with the package, for instance `flexlayout-react/style/dark.css`. A model needs a valid `layout` node of type `row` or `col`; skip it and `Model.fromJson()` throws, so check that first when something breaks.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill flexlayout-react -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/flexlayout-react/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/flexlayout-react/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill flexlayout-react -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/flexlayout-react/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill flexlayout-react -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/flexlayout-react/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills flexlayout-react
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/flexlayout-react/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill flexlayout-react -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/javascript/frameworks/flexlayout-react
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/flexlayout-react/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill flexlayout-react -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- build a workspace with draggable panes
- describe a tab layout as a JSON model
- dock a file tree and terminal on the edges
- save and restore where panels sit
- nest rows and columns inside an editor view

## Example prompts
- Build an IDE-style layout on flexlayout-react: explorer on the left, editor in the middle, terminal at the bottom
- Write a `Model.fromJson()` config with two tabs and a splitter between them
- Persist the layout with `model.toJson()` and load it back on startup

# FlexLayout-React - Professional Docking Layouts

## Overview

FlexLayout-React provides IDE-quality docking layouts with drag-and-drop, tabs, splitters, and complex window management. Perfect for dashboards, IDEs, admin panels, and any interface requiring flexible, user-customizable layouts.

**Key Features**:
- Drag-and-drop panel repositioning
- Tabbed interfaces with close, maximize, minimize
- Splitters for resizable panes
- Border docking areas
- Layout persistence (save/restore)
- Programmatic layout control
- TypeScript support

**Installation**:
```bash
npm install flexlayout-react
```

## Basic Setup

### 1. Define Layout Model

```typescript
import { Model, IJsonModel } from 'flexlayout-react';
const initialLayout: IJsonModel = {
    global: {
        tabEnableClose: true,
        tabEnableRename: false,
    },
    borders: [],
    layout: {
        type: 'row',
        weight: 100,
        children: [
            {
                type: 'tabset',
                weight: 50,
                children: [
                    {
                        type: 'tab',
                        name: 'Explorer',
                        component: 'explorer',
                    }
                ]
            },
            {
                type: 'tabset',
                weight: 50,
                children: [
                    {
                        type: 'tab',
                        name: 'Editor',
                        component: 'editor',
                    }
                ]
            }
        ]
    }
};
// Create model
const model = Model.fromJson(initialLayout);
```

### 2. Create Layout Component

```typescript
import React, { useRef } from 'react';
import { Layout, Model, TabNode, IJsonTabNode } from 'flexlayout-react';
import 'flexlayout-react/style/dark.css';  // or light.css
interface ComponentRegistry {
    explorer: React.ComponentType;
````
