## What it does

This skill provides architecture rules for Firebase applications. It organizes code into feature folders with dedicated services and components, keeping separate configurations for staging and production environments. For Firestore, the agent isolates database logic into dedicated collection services and relies on transactions or batch operations to keep data consistent.

The instructions cover backend logic in Cloud Functions and file handling in Storage. File transfers must use signed URLs with centralized key definitions. Naming follows strict rules: `camelCase` for methods, `kebab-case` for file paths, `PascalCase` for classes, and plural nouns for Firestore collections.

Because the guidelines target Angular and TypeScript projects, suggestions regarding UI components and pipes will not fit backend-only Node.js or React setups. The instructions also enforce unit testing for security rules and offline data persistence.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill firebase-development -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/firebase-development/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/firebase-development/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill firebase-development -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/firebase-development/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill firebase-development -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/firebase-development/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills firebase-development
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/firebase-development/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill firebase-development -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path firebase-development
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/firebase-development/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill firebase-development -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- structure Firestore collections and dedicated services by feature
- implement typed serverless logic in Cloud Functions
- secure file transfers in Firebase Storage using signed URLs
- write unit tests for Firestore security rules and offline persistence

## Example prompts
- Create a Firestore service for bookings with transaction support and cursor pagination.
- Write a typed Cloud Function for user registration with centralized error logging.
- Set up Firestore security rules and write tests to verify access control.

# Firebase Development

You are an expert in Firebase development with Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Functions, and Storage.

## Project Structure

- Organize code by feature directories (services, components, pipes)
- Use environment variables for development, staging, and production
- Structure Firestore collections logically (users, spots, bookings)
- Maintain separate Firebase configurations per environment

## Code Organization Best Practices

- Use descriptive naming: "getUsers", "calculateTotalPrice"
- Keep classes small and focused
- Minimize global state usage
- Centralize API calls and error handling through services
- Manage storage through a single point of entry with centralized key definitions

## Firebase-Specific Patterns

### Firestore
- Create dedicated services for each Firestore collection type
- Implement centralized Firebase error handling
- Use transactions for data consistency
- Apply Firebase security rules for data protection

### Cloud Functions
- Leverage Firebase Functions for serverless backend logic
- Implement proper error handling and logging
- Use typed function parameters and responses

### Storage
- Handle file uploads/downloads via Firebase Storage
- Implement proper access control
- Use signed URLs for secure file access

### Authentication
- Manage user identity through Firebase Authentication
- Implement proper session management
- Handle auth state changes reactively

## Naming Conventions

- **camelCase**: functions and variables
- **kebab-case**: file names (user-service.ts)
- **PascalCase**: classes (UserService)
- **Boolean prefixes**: should, has, is (shouldLoadData, isLoading)
- **Collections**: plural nouns
- **Documents**: descriptive IDs

## Performance Optimization

- Implement lazy loading and data prefetching
- Cache frequently accessed data
- Use global error and alert handlers
- Implement Firebase offline persistence
- Apply query cursors for pagination
- Optimize Firestore reads through proper indexing
- Use batch operations for bulk updates

## Testing Requirements

- Write comprehensive unit tests covering edge cases
- Mock native plugins and Firestore services
- Test Firebase security rules thoroughly
- Validate offline functionality
