# fintech-algorithms

The skill wires a 717-function TypeScript library into your agent: indicators, statistics, portfolio and risk maths. Useful when a number has to be computed, not approximated.

## What it does

The skill teaches an agent to work with the `fintech-algorithms` npm package. It ships 717 pure functions with zero runtime dependencies: basic statistics, technical indicators such as RSI and MACD, candlestick and chart patterns, bar construction from tick data, OHLC validation and cleaning, corporate actions, market microstructure, credit risk, score validation, volatility and covariance estimation, portfolio construction. Plain arrays and objects go in, plain values come out. Node >= 22, ESM.

One thing to know before you install: the library does not fetch data. No HTTP client, no vendor SDK, no API key, no `node:fs`. Prices and ticks come from your code, so the shape is always the same — your feed, your adapter, validate, compute, report. For a "live analysis" request the skill covers only the middle of that chain.

Resolution order is strict: read `node_modules/fintech-algorithms/docs.json` first, then domain indexes, then topic markdown. Guessing an import path or a field name is off the table, because return-key casing is not consistent across the library — a plausible guess returns something wrong that reads as right. The skill also makes the agent state a verification tier: `verified` for 601 topics, `contract` for 74. And it draws the line at analysis, not advice.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add IslamBaraka90/Fintech-Algorithms-Library --skill fintech-algorithms -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/fintech-algorithms/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/fintech-algorithms/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add IslamBaraka90/Fintech-Algorithms-Library --skill fintech-algorithms -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/fintech-algorithms/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add IslamBaraka90/Fintech-Algorithms-Library --skill fintech-algorithms -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/fintech-algorithms/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install IslamBaraka90/Fintech-Algorithms-Library fintech-algorithms
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/fintech-algorithms/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add IslamBaraka90/Fintech-Algorithms-Library --skill fintech-algorithms -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/IslamBaraka90/Fintech-Algorithms-Library --path skills/fintech-algorithms
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/fintech-algorithms/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add IslamBaraka90/Fintech-Algorithms-Library --skill fintech-algorithms -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/IslamBaraka90/Fintech-Algorithms-Library/tree/HEAD/skills/fintech-algorithms/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- compute RSI, MACD or a moving average over a price series
- build bars from a stream of ticks
- validate and clean OHLC data before a calculation
- estimate volatility and covariance with Ledoit-Wolf shrinkage
- construct a portfolio with Markowitz or risk parity

## Example prompts
- compute RSI on this close array and tell me the verification tier
- build bars from these ticks through the adapter and validate the OHLC
- find the value at risk function in docs.json and show me its signature

description: Compute market-data, trading and quantitative analytics with the `fintech-algorithms` npm package — 717 zero-dependency TypeScript algorithms covering statistics and financial-mathematics foundations (mean, median, percentiles, standard deviation, correlation, regression, distributions, z-scores, log returns, volatility, drawdown, Sharpe, value at risk), technical indicators (RSI, MACD, moving averages, Bollinger Bands, ATR, OBV, Stochastic), candlestick and chart patterns, market breadth, bar construction from tick data, OHLC validation and cleaning, corporate actions, index and benchmark construction, market microstructure, matching engines, execution and TCA, statistical time series, credit risk and probability of default, classifier and score validation (ROC, AUC, Brier, calibration), on-chain metrics and EPS analytics, volatility and covariance estimation (GARCH, realized variance, Ledoit-Wolf shrinkage), portfolio construction (Markowitz mean-variance, minimum variance, risk parity, Black-Litterman, Kelly). Use when asked to analyse a price series, compute a statistic or summary, compute or explain an indicator, detect a candlestick or chart pattern, build bars from ticks, validate or clean market data, score or validate a model, wire up a market-data provider, or when writing code that needs any of these calculations to be correct rather than approximated.

## Non-negotiables

Four rules. Breaking any one produces output that looks right and is wrong.

1. **Never invent an import path, a function name, or a parameter.** Every
   subpath mirrors its docs URL exactly, which makes a plausible guess wrong in
   a way that reads as correct. Look it up — `scripts/lookup.mjs` or the
   resolution order below. If the topic does not exist, say so and stop.
