# finesse-ui

A skill for building and refining web interfaces: landing pages, dashboards, mobile screens, single components. It keeps an eye on type, color and motion.

## What it does

finesse-ui starts by reading the register of the task. A brand page, where the design is the product, and a working dashboard, where design serves the data, get different rule sets. The skill then prints a short line describing what you will see and waits for your answer before writing code.

Modes cover the whole loop: `craft`, `audit`, `bolder`, `quieter`, `soul`, `diverge`, `animate`, `depth`, `densify`, `redesign`, `init`, `document`. Separate reference files handle mobile frames, product palettes, component scope and design-system extraction. For Apple-inspired work it pulls in `references/apple-design.md` with `editorial`, `app` or `spatial` modes.

Backend-only work is out of scope. A single button or card gets routed to `references/component-scope.md` instead of full page apparatus. Image sourcing depends on which tools are actually available in the session, so a generator with no credential is not offered as an option.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mouse-lin/finesse-skill --skill finesse-ui -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/finesse-ui/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/finesse-ui/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mouse-lin/finesse-skill --skill finesse-ui -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/finesse-ui/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mouse-lin/finesse-skill --skill finesse-ui -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/finesse-ui/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mouse-lin/finesse-skill finesse-ui
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/finesse-ui/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mouse-lin/finesse-skill --skill finesse-ui -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mouse-lin/finesse-skill --path skills/finesse-ui
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/finesse-ui/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mouse-lin/finesse-skill --skill finesse-ui -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mouse-lin/finesse-skill/tree/HEAD/skills/finesse-ui/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a landing page with a point of view instead of a template
- extract a palette and type scale from an existing design
- tighten a dashboard so the numbers read without scrolling
- add motion that does not get in the way of the interface
- rework a phone screen around thumb reach and safe areas

## Example prompts
- run an audit on the settings page and show me what looks cheap
- make it quieter, drop the gloss from the pricing cards
- build the checkout screen for mobile, h5 + commerce

Route by purpose, preserve project identity, and audit visual quality, accessibility and motion. Supports Apple-inspired / 苹果风 design through editorial, app and spatial modes with runnable card studies. Use for landing pages, portfolios, dashboards, admin panels, settings, agent consoles, product pages, checkout, mobile app UI, design-system extraction, redesign, typography, color, layout, animation, drag/swipe/sheet interactions and anti-generic iteration. # finesse — Technically Spectacular · Soul-Distinct · Never Cheap

> **finesse builds two kinds of interface and routes by register (§0):**
> - **brand** — design IS the product: landing pages, brand sites, launches, portfolios, hero pages. Optimize for **spectacle + soul + first impression** — a real visual engine, an opinionated personality.
> - **product** — design SERVES the product: dashboards, admin panels, analytics, data tables, app shells, settings. Optimize for **clarity + density + usability** — and still never cheap.
>
> The through-line is identical: **high craft, zero AI-slop.** What applies to **both** is the **universal craft floor** (tinted neutrals, no `#fff`/`#000`, translucent/hairline borders, tinted shadows, contrast floors), the cheapness blacklist (§6), and the pre-flight (§8). What **forks** is the *substrate above that floor* and the middle: **brand** lays the §3 brand substrate (`design-dna.md` — grain, vignette, display type) and reaches for a hero engine (§4); **product** lays its **own** substrate (`product-ui.md` §0 — surfaces, cards, KPI tiles, density) and reaches for a component system + data viz. A dashboard is a **different design language**, not a brand page with charts — it does **not** inherit grain / vignette / giant hero type / dark-default / a hero engine.
