## What it does

The skill puts the agent in the seat of a senior equity research analyst writing an initiation of coverage report. The audience is a time-constrained hedge fund PM, so the style leans on plain English, active voice and short sentences rather than long prose.

It ties together the individual Octagon skills: income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, growth metrics, revenue split by product and geography, analyst estimates, Altman Z-Score and Piotroski scores, historical ratings, plus MSCI and Sustainalytics ESG ratings with sector benchmarks. The workflow runs in phases — data collection, growth and trend analysis, segmentation, ESG, peer comparison, then report generation. The report template is fixed too: executive summary with target price and rating, investment thesis, positives, peer table, three-year forward model with base, bear and bull cases, valuation through EV/EBITDA and P/E multiples, ranked risks, and an ESG section.

One thing to sort out first: Octagon MCP has to be configured in your agent, because that is where the data comes from. Setup steps live in `references/mcp-setup.md`. Skip that and the phases have nothing to pull from.
