## What it does

The skill runs in a fixed order. It confirms platform and runtime constraints, checks the design against HIG buckets, picks one primary path, applies Apple's visual rules, and only then writes code. Four paths are covered: `expo-glass-effect` for UIKit-backed glass, `@expo/ui` with SwiftUI modifiers, native tabs from `expo-router/unstable-native-tabs`, and the third-party `@callstack/liquid-glass`.

Code patterns ship with it. The `AdaptiveGlass` wrapper checks `isGlassEffectAPIAvailable()` and falls back to `BlurView` on iOS or a translucent `View` on Android. A separate section covers safe `expo-glass-effect` usage: no `opacity` below 1, no scrollable content inside `GlassView`, and `isInteractive` treated as mount-time only. Native tab syntax is given for both SDK 54 and SDK 55, and the two differ.

One thing to know upfront: `expo-glass-effect` and `@expo/ui` are not reliable in Expo Go on iOS, so you need a development build. The APIs move fast, so check current Expo SDK docs before locking in syntax. The skill also advises keeping glass on controls and navigation chrome rather than primary content surfaces.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add devanshuDesai/agent-skills --skill expo-liquid-glass -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/expo-liquid-glass/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/expo-liquid-glass/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add devanshuDesai/agent-skills --skill expo-liquid-glass -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/expo-liquid-glass/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add devanshuDesai/agent-skills --skill expo-liquid-glass -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/expo-liquid-glass/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install devanshuDesai/agent-skills expo-liquid-glass
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/expo-liquid-glass/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add devanshuDesai/agent-skills --skill expo-liquid-glass -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/devanshuDesai/agent-skills --path skills/expo-liquid-glass
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/expo-liquid-glass/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add devanshuDesai/agent-skills --skill expo-liquid-glass -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/devanshuDesai/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/expo-liquid-glass/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a glass control bar in Expo without breaking Android
- choose between `expo-glass-effect`, `@expo/ui` and native tabs
- add a fallback when Reduce Transparency is on
- migrate native tabs from SDK 54 to SDK 55
- kill double blur in a screen header

## Example prompts
- Add a glass control bar at the bottom of the screen with expo-glass-effect and an Android fallback
- Move the tab bar to expo-router/unstable-native-tabs using SDK 55 syntax
- Animate a glass transition between two chips with @expo/ui and a Namespace

  Design and implement beautiful, fluid Liquid Glass interfaces in Expo React Native apps.
  Covers four paths: (1) expo-glass-effect for UIKit-backed glass surfaces, (2) @expo/ui
  SwiftUI integration for native SwiftUI glass modifiers and advanced transitions,
  (3) Expo Router unstable native tabs for system Liquid Glass tab bars, and
  (4) @callstack/liquid-glass as a third-party alternative. Use when tasks mention
  "liquid glass", "glass effect", "frosted/translucent UI", "iOS 26 design", "native tabs",
  "expo-ui", "SwiftUI in Expo", or when shipping Apple-style glass with robust fallbacks,
  accessibility checks, HIG-aware design decisions (Foundations, Patterns, Components,
  Inputs), and cross-platform degradation.

# Expo Liquid Glass

Ship Liquid Glass UI that feels native, stays legible, and degrades safely across iOS/Android.

## Execution Order

1. Confirm platform/runtime constraints.
2. Check design alignment against HIG buckets (recommended for design-heavy tasks).
3. Pick one primary implementation path (add a second path only if needed).
4. Apply Apple-aligned visual rules before writing code.
5. Implement guarded glass components with explicit fallbacks.
6. Run accessibility and visual QA in both light/dark and clear/tinted appearances.

## 1) Preflight Constraints

- Use Liquid Glass only for **controls/navigation chrome**, not primary content surfaces.
- Treat these APIs as fast-moving: check current Expo SDK docs before finalizing syntax.
- Expect a development build for advanced iOS-native features:
  `expo-glass-effect` and `@expo/ui` are not reliable in Expo Go on iOS.
- Keep scope on Liquid Glass in Expo: use HIG rules to guide implementation, not to redesign unrelated product behavior.

## 2) Design Alignment (Recommended for design-heavy tasks)

For tasks that involve significant visual design decisions, evaluate against these HIG buckets:

1. **Foundations**
   Check materials, color, layout, motion, and accessibility implications.
2. **Patterns**
   Check navigation/search/flow behavior for consistency with system expectations.
3. **Components**
   Check bars, buttons, menus, fields, sidebars, and overlays used by the screen.
4. **Inputs**
   Check touch, gesture, keyboard, and pointer behavior for parity and discoverability.

See `references/apple-liquid-glass-design.md` for practical design guidance.
If a proposed style conflicts with HIG intent, prefer the HIG-consistent option.
