## What it does

The skill provides an inspection workflow for Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) flaws in web apps and APIs. It maps object identifiers such as sequential numbers, UUIDs, Base64 strings, hashes, and slugs across endpoints. It details how to filter Burp Suite HTTP history to detect parameter locations prone to broken access controls.

Testing covers both horizontal and vertical IDOR. Horizontal checks verify whether User A can read or modify User B's profiles, invoices, and messages via GET and PUT requests. Vertical checks target administrative reports and tenant settings using standard user tokens. It also examines parameters hidden inside JSON bodies and GraphQL queries.

You need a written penetration testing agreement, Burp Suite Professional, and two test accounts with distinct permission levels before starting. The automated checks fail if the Authorize extension lacks properly configured session headers.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --path skills/exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills/tree/HEAD/skills/exploiting-idor-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- map object reference formats across API endpoints
- automate cross-session authorization checks with Burp Authorize
- test horizontal access boundaries between peer user accounts
- verify access controls on administrative reports and organization settings
- inspect JSON request bodies and GraphQL fields for object reference flaws

## Example prompts
- Show me how to test horizontal IDOR on order endpoints using curl
- Configure the Burp Authorize extension with headers from two test accounts
- Generate curl commands to probe for IDOR inside JSON POST payloads

# Exploiting IDOR Vulnerabilities

## When to Use

- During authorized penetration tests when testing access control on resource endpoints
- When APIs or web pages use predictable identifiers (numeric IDs, UUIDs, slugs) in URLs or request bodies
- For validating that object-level authorization is enforced across all CRUD operations
- When testing multi-tenant applications where users should only access their own data
- During bug bounty programs targeting broken access control vulnerabilities

## Prerequisites

- **Authorization**: Written penetration testing agreement for the target application
- **Burp Suite Professional**: With Authorize extension installed from BApp Store
- **Two test accounts**: At least two separate user accounts with different permission levels
- **Burp Authorize Extension**: For automated IDOR testing across sessions
- **curl/httpie**: For manual request crafting
- **Browser**: Configured to proxy through Burp Suite

## Workflow

### Step 1: Map All Object References in the Application

Identify every endpoint that references objects by ID across the application.

```bash
# Browse the application through Burp proxy with User A
# Review Burp Target > Site Map for endpoints with object references
# Common IDOR-prone endpoints to look for:
# GET /api/users/{id}
# GET /api/orders/{id}
# GET /api/invoices/{id}/download
# PUT /api/users/{id}/profile
# DELETE /api/posts/{id}
# GET /api/documents/{id}
# GET /api/messages/{conversation_id}
````

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 453273de76961014 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
