# experience-lds-graphql-generate

This skill builds Salesforce LDS GraphQL queries and mutations from your org's schema and wires them into a Lightning Web Component. Useful when an LWC has to read or edit records over GraphQL instead of wire adapters.

## What it does

The skill owns the whole path: introspect the connected org's LDS GraphQL schema, find entities and fields, assemble a schema-validated query or mutation, verify it against a live org. The schema is the only source of truth here — entity names, field types and relationships come from `schema.graphql`, not from general Salesforce knowledge. So `Owner` is not assumed to be a `User`; when a field resolves to several entity types, the skill marks it polymorphic and plans inline fragments.

Two bash scripts do the org-aware work: `scripts/fetch-lds-graphql-schema.sh` pulls the SDL into a file, `scripts/test-lds-graphql-query.sh` runs the query against a connected org. The schema file is huge, so reading it whole is out — targeted `grep` only, at most 4–5 calls per entity. Steps run in strict order, and a failed step blocks the rest until it is fixed. Introspection is capped at three cycles.

Before you start you need a connected org with a username or alias you confirm yourself, plus `sf` in the shell; the scripts want `python3` 3.8 or newer. If the prompt forbids GraphQL or picks UIAPI or Apex, the skill stays out of the way — that is what `experience-lds-best-practices-apply` is for. Worth checking that your task is really about LDS GraphQL and not the REST UI API.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-graphql-generate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/experience-lds-graphql-generate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/experience-lds-graphql-generate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-graphql-generate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/experience-lds-graphql-generate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-graphql-generate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/experience-lds-graphql-generate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills experience-lds-graphql-generate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/experience-lds-graphql-generate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-graphql-generate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/experience-lds-graphql-generate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/experience-lds-graphql-generate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-graphql-generate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- build a GraphQL query against standard and custom Salesforce objects
- wire a gql query into an LWC through `lightning/uiGraphQLApi`
- validate a generated query against a connected org
- handle polymorphic fields with inline fragments
- find child relationships of an object before writing the query

## Example prompts
- I need an LWC that lists Accounts over GraphQL — build the query and wire it up
- add a mutation that updates a Case through `lightning/uiGraphQLApi`
- test this gql query against my org

description: "Use ALWAYS when a prompt mentions GraphQL, lightning/uiGraphQLApi, @wire(graphql, ...), or gql template tags in an LWC context — even if the surface ask is \"build an LWC\". Owns the ENTIRE flow: introspect the org's LDS GraphQL schema, identify entities/fields, construct the schema-validated gql query or mutation, wire it into the LWC via lightning/uiGraphQLApi, verify against a connected org. REQUIRED whenever a prompt asks to render, list, or edit Salesforce records (Account, Contact, Case, custom objects) via GraphQL — the .html and .js scaffolding IS in scope. DO NOT delegate to experience-lwc-generate: that skill has NO GraphQL schema introspection, NO create_lds_graphql_read_query binding, and defaults to getRecord/getRelatedListRecords wire adapters which will not satisfy a GraphQL prompt. DO NOT TRIGGER only if the prompt forbids GraphQL, chooses UIAPI/Apex (use experience-lds-best-practices-apply), or asks for data requirements (use experience-lds-data-requirements-generate)."

# Building LDS GraphQL

Generate schema-validated Salesforce LDS GraphQL queries (read or mutation), either as standalone queries or wired into a Lightning Web Component via the `lightning/graphql` adapters. The skill encodes the schema-as-source-of-truth workflow end-to-end. Two bundled bash scripts handle the org-aware steps — `scripts/fetch-lds-graphql-schema.sh` for schema introspection and `scripts/test-lds-graphql-query.sh` for live-org validation.

## When to Use

- User wants to create, modify, or integrate a Salesforce GraphQL query (standard objects, custom objects, or setup objects).
