## What it does

The skill walks a component through four sections: hand-rolled forms where a base record form would do, hard-coded field names instead of schema imports, Apex and LDS mixed without synchronization, and Apex used for plain CRUD. A yes on any of them means a refactor. Then it moves step by step, starting with an inventory of every data operation in the component.

Four reference files back it up: general LDS knowledge, cache consistency with `refreshApex` and `notifyRecordUpdateAvailable`, referential integrity through `@salesforce/schema` imports, and a per-adapter API file covering syntax, parameters and returns. The author asks you to read the relevant reference before editing code rather than working from memory.

You need the component path and a sense of what it does with data — read, write, or both. Schema imports require access to the org's schema. This is a data-layer skill only: GraphQL, upstream data-requirements discovery, SLDS tokens, accessibility and security reviews sit outside it and have their own passes.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-best-practices-apply -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/experience-lds-best-practices-apply/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/experience-lds-best-practices-apply/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-best-practices-apply -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/experience-lds-best-practices-apply/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-best-practices-apply -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/experience-lds-best-practices-apply/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills experience-lds-best-practices-apply
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/experience-lds-best-practices-apply/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-best-practices-apply -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/experience-lds-best-practices-apply
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/experience-lds-best-practices-apply/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill experience-lds-best-practices-apply -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- swap hard-coded field names for `@salesforce/schema` imports
- fix stale data after a record save
- decide between `getRecord` and Apex for a read
- drop Apex calls that LDS already covers
- give LDS reads and Apex writes one refresh strategy

## Example prompts
- review this LWC for LDS best-practice issues
- apply LDS best practices to this LWC
- UIAPI or Apex for this data?

# Applying LDS Best Practices

Apply the Lightning Data Service guidelines to a Lightning Web Component. Three pillars: **data consistency**, **referential integrity**, and **UIAPI vs Apex**. Focused on the UI API path — GraphQL and upstream data-requirements analysis are handled out-of-band.

## When to Use

- Reviewing a component's data layer for LDS compliance (hand-rolled forms, stringly-typed field names, un-synchronized Apex + LDS, Apex overuse).
- Implementing CRUD on standard or custom objects.
- Deciding between `getRecord`, `getRecords`, `createRecord`, `updateRecord`, `deleteRecord`, base record form components, or Apex.
- Fixing stale-data bugs after record mutation.
- Adding schema imports (`@salesforce/schema/...`) to replace hard-coded field/object names.

Do NOT use this skill for:
- GraphQL query/mutation generation — handled out-of-band today.
- Upstream data-requirements discovery — handled out-of-band today.
- SLDS class / design-token work (use `design-systems-slds-apply`).
- Accessibility, security, or RTL review — those are separate passes run with their own tooling.
