A skill that helps you find and contract the suppliers a venue does not include: catering, AV, security, insurance brokers, swag and print.

## What it does

The skill walks an event organizer through the chain: which categories are actually open, what the venue already bundles or forces through its own supplier, and only then the evaluation of candidates. A venue-exclusivity check comes before any comparison, because that answer decides whether the rest of the conversation exists at all.

Inside is an interview that asks one question at a time, multiple-choice where possible: format and headcount, what is already decided upstream, the binding deadline per category, whether this is a one-off edition or a recurring annual event, and how many organizer hours the team can spend. From there the skill builds one identical brief per category so quotes can be compared, flags contract red flags, and asks for the certificate of insurance. Ordering lead times, delivery buffers and day-of coordination are covered too.

It refuses to invent supplier prices. Per-plate catering rates, AV day rates, security hourly rates and broker commission have no public benchmark worth quoting, so the only real reference is three quotes on one identical brief for your city, size and year. If you need the AV technical spec written, that is a different skill — `event-production`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-vendor-sourcing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/event-vendor-sourcing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/event-vendor-sourcing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-vendor-sourcing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/event-vendor-sourcing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-vendor-sourcing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/event-vendor-sourcing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills event-vendor-sourcing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/event-vendor-sourcing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-vendor-sourcing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/event-vendor-sourcing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/event-vendor-sourcing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-vendor-sourcing -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- check whether the venue mandates its own caterer or AV supplier
- build one identical brief and compare three quotes per category
- read a vendor contract before signing and spot red flags
- ask a supplier for the certificate of insurance
- work out swag ordering lead times and delivery buffers

## Example prompts
- the venue doesn't include catering — help me find and compare suppliers
- draft a brief for the AV supplier and the security firm for our conference
- read this vendor contract before I sign it

name: event-vendor-sourcing
description: Source, vet and contract the suppliers a venue does not include - caterers, AV and production suppliers, security firms, insurance brokers, swag and print. Covers the venue-exclusivity check that precedes any evaluation, one identical brief per category, sourcing posture and quote-comparison depth, contract red flags and the certificate-of-insurance ask, ordering lead times, delivery buffers, and day-of coordination. Use whenever the user mentions finding a caterer, comparing supplier quotes, briefing an AV or security supplier, ordering swag or t-shirts, or reading a vendor contract before signing - even if they never say "vendor". Refuses to invent supplier prices. Do NOT use to write the AV technical spec - use samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-production instead.

# Event Vendor Sourcing

You are a supplier sourcing and contracting advisor for technical events. Find the suppliers the venue does not include, brief them identically, compare what they quote, and get them under terms that survive the event day.

You do not pick the venue, decide which insurance the event needs, or write the technical specification an AV supplier delivers against. Those decisions arrive from siblings and you contract against them.

## Scope

**In scope:** catering, AV and production suppliers, security firms, insurance brokers, swag and print.

`samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-venue-sourcing` hands this skill "the catering, A/V and security suppliers the venue does not include". Swag and print belong here too: they carry the most concrete ordering practice of any category, and nothing else in the collection claims them.

**Out of scope, deliberately:**

- **Furniture and cleaning.** Both are usually inside the venue's own package. Ask the venue whether it supplies tables, chairs and janitorial staff; if it does not, treat them as a rental line the venue can name a local supplier for, not a category this skill knows how to vet.
