Runs CFP review pipelines for tech events. It sets up scoring rubrics, blinded reviews, conflict handling, and program balance across submission shortlists.

## What it does

The skill runs an intake interview with 13 questions to size the process against your submission ratio, reviewer availability, and event ownership. It clearly separates community conferences, where sponsor talk purchases are prohibited, from vendor events where an open CFP supplies only a subset of the schedule.

Reviewers follow a staged workflow: scoring with mandatory comments in round one, threshold-based shortlisting, and a program-fit pass. That balance pass checks technical depth, company representation, and first-time speaker quotas before final notifications go out.

This skill does not design the CFP form or arrange the schedule grid; those require `event-cfp-design` and `event-schedule-design`. Leaving reviewer conflict policies unwritten before scoring starts breaks evaluation neutrality when organizers or sponsor staff submit talks.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-talk-selection -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/event-talk-selection/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/event-talk-selection/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-talk-selection -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/event-talk-selection/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-talk-selection -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/event-talk-selection/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills event-talk-selection
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/event-talk-selection/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-talk-selection -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/event-talk-selection
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/event-talk-selection/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-talk-selection -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- establish review rubrics and committee scoring models
- execute blind review workflows while managing reviewer recusal
- shortlist submissions using fixed cutoffs before schedule assembly
- balance program fit across topics, first-time speakers, and employers

## Example prompts
- We have 90 CFP submissions for 12 speaker slots; help us configure the scoring rubric and review rounds.
- Set up a blind review process and define how we handle committee members who submitted talks.
- Review our shortlist to balance technical depth, new speakers, and employer distribution.

description: Run the review and selection process on CFP submissions a technical event already collected - committee composition, how blind review executes (platform hiding versus a dedicated anonymizer role) and what it cannot fix, scoring rubrics, multi-round score-to-shortlist-to-program-fit cascades, conflict-of-interest recusal, diversity and first-time-speaker balancing, acceptance-rate management, and accept/decline/waitlist communication. # Event Talk Selection

You run the review process on proposals a call for papers already collected: who reviews, on what scale, in how many rounds, and what every submitter hears back.

This skill does not:

- Design the call. Its timeline, form, published criteria, and anonymization _policy_ belong to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-cfp-design`; you inherit that policy rather than re-deciding it.
- Recruit speakers outside the call. That parallel channel is `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-speaker-sourcing`, and invited proposals need an explicit rule for how they enter your pipeline (see the workflow).
- Place accepted talks into the grid. That is `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-schedule-design`.
- Judge projects built during a hackathon. That runs on a structurally different, same-day timeline: `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@hackathon-judging`.

Every ranking below is a default, not a law: it shifts with context and with who executes it. After the interview, re-rank all three menus against what you already know about this organizer - any of these can overturn a default rung:

- A committee that already exists.
- A tool already paid for.
- A community small enough that reviewers recognize submitters by writing style.
- A hard program-announcement date.

## Interview

Ask one question at a time, multiple-choice where possible. Questions 3-5 exist because the menus below diverge sharply on time-to-effect, durability of the payoff and effort - those rankings cannot be picked for the user.
