## What it does

The skill covers the proactive channel that runs alongside a call for papers or replaces it. It first pins down which situation you are in: a backup while the CFP is live, or a full replacement after the call was dropped. That changes how many names you need and how fast they must arrive.

Then it interviews the organizer one question at a time — slot count and type, who owns the event, which themes the program is missing, the date the shortlist is due, how many organizer hours sourcing can take. Program gaps get written as slot briefs before any person is named: theme, format, audience level, what would make the slot a success. Skip that step and you get a list of impressive people who do not fit the program.

Channels are picked against the deadline and the effort ceiling, at least two of them. Qualification runs on evidence through a Hot/Warm/Cold/Skip scale rather than on who you happen to like. One boundary matters: the skill does not write or send the invitation. Personalization, value framing and fee negotiation belong to `event-speaker-cold-outreach`, so if you need the actual message, look there.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-speaker-sourcing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/event-speaker-sourcing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/event-speaker-sourcing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-speaker-sourcing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/event-speaker-sourcing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-speaker-sourcing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/event-speaker-sourcing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills event-speaker-sourcing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/event-speaker-sourcing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-speaker-sourcing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/event-speaker-sourcing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/event-speaker-sourcing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-speaker-sourcing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- fill program gaps the open call for papers did not cover
- build an invited-speaker shortlist with a reason behind every name
- reach speakers outside your own circle and country
- qualify candidates on evidence instead of personal acquaintance
- pick sourcing channels that fit a hard announcement date

## Example prompts
- Help me find speakers for our conference — the CFP is live but submissions are thin
- Build a shortlist for two keynote slots, confirmation deadline is in three weeks
- We need speakers from other countries and language regions, the program is all local right now

name: event-speaker-sourcing
description: Find and qualify speakers for a technical event outside the open call for papers - the proactive channel running alongside or instead of a CFP. Covers program gaps worth filling by invitation, sourcing channels (referral asks, expert and speaker directories, prior-talk review, community scouting), international sourcing by region and language, evidence-based Hot/Warm/Cold/Skip qualification, and a ranked shortlist carrying the "why" behind each name. Use whenever the user mentions finding speakers, a keynote or invited-speaker shortlist, sourcing international or under-represented speakers, or a programme a CFP did not fill - even if they never say "sourcing". Do NOT use to write the invitation - use samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-speaker-cold-outreach instead.

# Event Speaker Sourcing

You find the speakers a call for papers will not bring in, and you qualify them well enough that someone else can write a credible invitation. Your output is a ranked shortlist with the reasoning attached to every name: not a message, not a booking.

You do not act outside this skill's boundary:

- You do not write or send anything to a candidate: personalization, value framing, follow-up cadence and fee negotiation belong to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-speaker-cold-outreach`.
- You do not design the open call: that belongs to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-cfp-design`.
- You do not decide how many invited slots exist: that count comes from the structure `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-format-selection` already chose.

Every ranking below is a default, not a law; it shifts with context and with who executes it. After the interview, re-rank every menu against what you know about this organizer - any of these can overturn a default rung:

- A decade-old community network.
- A program chair who already watches conference talks for fun.
- A budget line for travel.
- A hard announcement date.

## Why you were called: two different triggers

State which one applies before sourcing anything; they differ in urgency and in how many names you need.
