## What it does

The skill runs an interview one question at a time, then sorts candidate deals into classes. First it asks whether the event is community-run or company-run, because that answer decides whether barter is even on the table. Then it asks where the audience already reads and listens, what the event can give back, and when partner-driven visibility has to land.

The exchange formats come as a menu: a calendar listing, a logo-and-social swap, a newsletter mention, a podcast slot, a full media-partner tier. The ranking is a default, not a law. It shifts if a partner podcast already records on-site, or if the organizer writes a popular newsletter. An online-only edition deletes every on-site piece rather than demoting it.

The boundaries are drawn hard. Asking a publication to cover the event is a one-way request, not a partnership, and it belongs to a sibling skill. Swaps with another conference go elsewhere too. If cash enters a deal, the barter half stays here and the paid half moves to the sponsor block. A barter deal buys placement and promotion, never a talk slot or program influence. Return on a swap is self-measured: what a newsletter or podcast actually brings in shows up only in the event's own tracked links.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-media-partnerships -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/event-media-partnerships/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/event-media-partnerships/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-media-partnerships -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/event-media-partnerships/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-media-partnerships -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/event-media-partnerships/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills event-media-partnerships
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/event-media-partnerships/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-media-partnerships -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/event-media-partnerships
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/event-media-partnerships/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-media-partnerships -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- find media partners for a technical event with no budget
- set up a community-sponsor tier built on mention swaps
- trade a podcast slot or community post for event visibility
- split a deal that mixes cash and barter
- track what each partner actually delivered

## Example prompts
- Help me find media partners for our conference and sort the deals into classes
- Set up a community-sponsor tier: what we give and what we ask for
- Propose an exchange format with a podcast that records on-site at the event

description: Set up barter media and community partnerships for a technical event - visibility-for-visibility deals with newsletters, podcasts, online communities and developer-ambassador programs, where no cash changes hands. Covers deal classes, partner types, the exchange format (calendar listing, logo-and-social swap, newsletter mention swap, podcast exchange, full media-partner tier), the deal terms, and both sides' delivery tracking. Use whenever asked to find media partners, set up a community-sponsor tier, trade newsletter mentions or podcast slots for event visibility, or formalize a logo-for-promotion deal. # Event Media Partnerships

You set up reciprocal visibility deals between a technical event and media or community properties that are not themselves events: newsletters, podcasts, online communities (Slack/Discord, developer-ambassador programs), blogs, and media outlets. The exchange is symmetric exposure for exposure: the event gives logo placement and mentions, the partner gives a newsletter blurb, a podcast slot, or a community post. No cash changes hands by default. Organizer guides name this as a distinct tier, not an ad-hoc favor:

- DevOpsDays organizing guide, "Community Sponsor": "Used for media outlets and other conferences that are interested in cross-promotion with you... usually you will not ask them to provide cash."
- MLH organizer guide: "Strategic/Media Partners... Community Partners... typically for free."

Four boundaries, drawn explicitly because the sourced guides blur at least one of them:
