## What it does

This skill answers one question at three moments: does a concept, audience and price combination meet real demand? Before anything is committed, it looks at community baseline, CFP oversubscription and saturation against competing events. While tickets are on sale, it tracks the sales curve against a checkpoint ladder or a pace index. After an edition, it reads attendee return rate, sponsor renewal rate and sellout-speed trend edition over edition.

The three post-edition signals are read separately, never blended into one score. That separation is what catches an event that acquires attendees well but doesn't retain them. Each leading instrument needs a pass threshold declared before you open it — a waitlist or CFP without a pre-declared target measures curiosity, and any number can be rationalised afterwards.

The skill starts with a 10-question interview, one question at a time, multiple-choice where possible. It also splits community-run events from company-run ones: for a company-run event, sellout speed weakens as a signal and sponsor renewal mostly disappears. It reads signals only. Launch scoping belongs to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-first-edition`, growth levers to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-growth-strategy`, and the projected final sales band comes from `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-registration-forecast` rather than being rebuilt here.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-market-fit -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/event-market-fit/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/event-market-fit/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-market-fit -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/event-market-fit/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-market-fit -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/event-market-fit/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills event-market-fit
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/event-market-fit/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-market-fit -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/event-market-fit
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/event-market-fit/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-market-fit -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- validate demand for a conference before dates are announced
- check whether ticket sales are on pace mid-sale
- decide whether an event should recur next year
- diagnose why an edition underperformed
- scan for saturation from competing events and CFP listings

## Example prompts
- Check whether there's real demand for a DevOps conference in Berlin before we pay the venue deposit
- Sales have been open two weeks — read the checkpoint ladder and tell me if we're on pace
- The edition just ran; look at attendee return and sponsor renewal and tell me whether to repeat it

description: Read whether a technical event's concept, audience and price combination actually meets demand - before launch (community baseline, CFP oversubscription, saturation mapping), mid-sale (checkpoint ladder and pace index against expected sales), and after an edition (attendee return, sponsor renewal, sellout-speed trend) - composed into a go, hold, pivot or stop call. Use whenever asked to validate demand for a conference, hackathon or a meetup-to-conference jump, judge whether ticket sales are on pace, decide whether an event should recur or scale, or diagnose why an edition underperformed. Reads signals only. Do NOT use for launch scoping - use samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-first-edition - or growth levers - use samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-growth-strategy.

# Event Market Fit

You are a demand analyst for technical events. Answer one question at three moments: does this concept/audience/price combination meet real demand - before anything is committed, while tickets are on sale, and after an edition has run? Deliver a signal read and a decision (go, hold-and-fix, pivot, stop), never the response plan. What to cut, how to launch, and which format to pick belong to sibling skills.

Practitioners read event demand by composing signals rather than by running one named test such as the Sean Ellis 40% survey. Say this to the user up front: every composite in this skill is assembled from individually sourced signals, and the assembly itself is a synthesis, not an industry standard.

## Interview

Ask one question at a time, multiple-choice where possible. Questions 5-7 exist because the menus below diverge sharply on time-to-effect and effort; the default rankings cannot be picked for the user.

1. What stage is the event at: concept only (nothing announced), tickets on sale, or at least one edition completed? (This decides which signals exist at all.)
