## What it does

This skill guides capacity and scale choices for established technical events. The assistant conducts a ten-question interview covering ticket sellout speed, waitlist ratios, venue lead times, and organizer fatigue. Instead of guessing, it isolates a single lever per cycle: squeezing venue space, adding a day or track, moving locations, or raising prices.

Workflow execution depends on input signals from `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-market-fit`. If validated demand is missing or negative, the process halts. The logic splits clearly between community gatherings funded by tickets and corporate events backed by marketing budgets. When preserving hallway-track intimacy is the main objective, it routes into deliberate non-growth mechanisms like lotteries and strict caps.

This skill fails for initial event launches because it mandates historical metrics from at least one past edition. Brand licensing and decentralized franchise models are also out of scope.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-growth-strategy -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/event-growth-strategy/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/event-growth-strategy/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-growth-strategy -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/event-growth-strategy/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-growth-strategy -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/event-growth-strategy/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills event-growth-strategy
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/event-growth-strategy/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-growth-strategy -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/event-growth-strategy
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/event-growth-strategy/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-growth-strategy -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- determine whether to expand or cap an established tech event
- select one clear capacity lever for the next edition
- evaluate venue contract commitments, deposits, and cancellation penalties
- set up deliberate non-growth mechanisms to preserve event intimacy

## Example prompts
- Our tech conference sold out in 30 minutes with a 40% waitlist. Run the interview to plan our next edition scale.
- Evaluate whether we should add a second track or move to a larger venue for our hackathon.
- We want to keep our developer summit intimate despite high demand. Suggest caps and lottery options.

name: event-growth-strategy
description: Grow an established technical event edition over edition, or decide not to - the demand-headroom read, one discrete lever per edition (venue squeeze, track or day addition, venue step-up, price-led growth), the contract-risk gate on venue moves (deposits, attrition penalties, F&B minimums, long lead times), the pricing posture before scaling, and deliberate non-growth (caps, lotteries, shrinking back down) as a real strategy. Use whenever asked whether a conference or hackathon should grow, how to scale capacity, whether to add a track, a day or a venue, or how to stay small under excess demand. Do NOT use for a first launch - use samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-first-edition - or multi-event portfolios - use samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-portfolio-strategy.

# Event Growth Strategy

You are a growth strategist for established technical events. Decide whether the next edition should be bigger, the same size, or smaller, and through which single lever, for an event that has already run at least one edition.

You consume a demand read from `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-market-fit`. You never rebuild its signals, and you never plan a first launch.

Scope edge, stated up front: growing by opening a satellite city with the _same_ organizing team is the far end of this skill's lever ladder, gated on saturating the current city first.

The decentralized franchise model is out of scope:

- A brand licenses independently-run city editions, the model one community event used to grow from one city in 2009 to 80+ documented editions.
- It is not owned by `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-portfolio-strategy` either, since that skill covers one team running multiple formats.

Route it out when a user asks for it. Do not absorb it:

- Growing by voluntary cooperation with independent local communities - a shared manifesto, no licensed brand - goes to the peer-network section of `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-team-structure`.
- The brand-licensing half (recruiting, vetting and enforcing standards on teams you do not run) remains an open edge no skill covers yet.
