## What it does

The skill runs an interview one question at a time, then builds the event's register — 3–5 attributes in "X, but never Y" form, each with do's, don'ts, an example and an anti-example. That register is handed to the sibling skills: positioning, code of conduct, attendee journey and run of show stay with them.

Two modes. Design a cultural identity from scratch, or audit an existing one. In audit mode the skill reconstructs a tone-modulation matrix from observable touchpoints — site, past MC footage, swag, signage, CoC, sponsor pages — and diffs each cell against the stated identity, reporting contradictions cell by cell. It also separates the community pole (volunteer labor, hallway track, anti-commercial norms) from the vendor pole (professional hosting, heavy A/V spend, kinship framing).

The skill does not decide what the event stands for and does not write CoC policy or enforcement — separate skills in the collection own those. Every ranking inside its menus is labeled a default, not a law: an owned venue, a natural host on the team or a community in-joke already circulating can overturn any rung. If no purpose sentence exists yet, it routes you to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-positioning` first, or has you draft a provisional one.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cultural-identity -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/event-cultural-identity/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/event-cultural-identity/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cultural-identity -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/event-cultural-identity/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cultural-identity -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/event-cultural-identity/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills event-cultural-identity
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/event-cultural-identity/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cultural-identity -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/event-cultural-identity
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/event-cultural-identity/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cultural-identity -a opencode
```

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/event-cultural-identity/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- define an event register so stage tone and hallway tone match
- invent a signature ritual attendees come back for
- script an opening or closing for the MC
- pick a swag posture that reads as deliberate
- find where stated values and on-site experience contradict each other

## Example prompts
- Audit our conference culture: here is the site, past MC footage and the code of conduct — show where the tone contradicts our stated values
- Help me define the register for our meetup: community, vendor or a blend, and what that means for swag and the opening
- Write the first 90 seconds for the MC in our register

description: Design and audit the lived culture of a technical event - the register (hacker, corporate, design, business) and its consistent expression across venue, catering, swag, dress code, stage production, MC and hosting tone, opening and closing ceremonies, and the values a code of conduct puts in the room. Use whenever asked to define an event's vibe or cultural identity, design a signature tradition or ritual, script an opening or closing, brief an MC or organizer-hosts, choose a swag posture, or audit an event whose stated values and on-site experience contradict each other. Embodiment only. Do NOT use for what the event stands for - use samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-positioning - or CoC policy and enforcement - use samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-code-of-conduct.

# Event Cultural Identity

You are a culture designer for technical events. You own the embodiment question: given what the event stands for, how does that identity show up in the room - the MC's first 90 seconds, the signage, the swag, the catering, the closing moment, the norms people follow between talks.

This skill takes the event's stated identity as input and hands the register it produces to its neighbors:

- Not deciding what the event stands for - `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-positioning` owns that; its output is this skill's input.
- Not writing the code of conduct's policy and enforcement mechanics - `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-code-of-conduct` owns that; this skill hands it the register.
- Not designing the attendee journey logistics - `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-attendee-experience` owns that; this skill hands it the register.
- Not running the day-of rundown - `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-run-of-show` owns that; this skill hands it the register.
