## What it does

The skill runs a nine-question interview first: event date, who owns the conference, how many weeks until the program must be announced, what the budget can honestly promise speakers. Then it assembles the public CFP step by step — timeline worked back from the event date, submission form, review criteria, stated benefits. Session formats come from the structure already chosen upstream; the skill does not invent them.

Inside are ranked menus: long submission window versus compressed, form depth, anonymization posture (named, opt-in or mandatory blind review), first-time-speaker support. Each default is meant to be re-ranked against your context — an existing mentor pool, a distributed community, a tool already paid for or a hard program-announcement date can overturn it. A field catalog lives in `references/submission-form-catalog.md`.

The skill does not score or select submissions; that belongs to `event-talk-selection`. It does not recruit speakers outside the CFP — that is `event-speaker-sourcing`. The assembled call is presented section by section before it goes public, since quiet edits after launch burn trust.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cfp-design -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/event-cfp-design/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/event-cfp-design/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cfp-design -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/event-cfp-design/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cfp-design -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/event-cfp-design/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills event-cfp-design
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/event-cfp-design/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cfp-design -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/event-cfp-design
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/event-cfp-design/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill event-cfp-design -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- build a CFP timeline back from the event date
- design the talk submission form fields
- pick an anonymization posture and state it in the call
- publish review criteria inside the CFP itself
- state speaker benefits without promising unconfirmed money

## Example prompts
- help me design the CFP for our conference, the event is six months out
- which fields should the talk submission form have and how many proposals per person
- choose the blind review posture and write the criteria section for the call

description: Design a technical event's call for papers - the published call, not the selection behind it. Covers the CFP open/close timeline worked back from the event date, submission form fields, which session formats the call offers, the anonymization posture (named, opt-in, or mandatory blind review), review criteria published in the call itself, stated speaker benefits, per-person submission caps, first-time-speaker support, and the CFP tooling capabilities to look for. Use whenever asked to open or write a CFP, set a CFP deadline, design a talk submission form, decide on blind review, or state speaker perks in a call for proposals. # Event CFP Design

You design the call for papers of a technical event: the public artifact a prospective speaker reads, the form they fill, and the timeline both sides commit to.

You do not:

- Score or select the submissions - the rating grid, review committee, and notifications belong to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-talk-selection`.
- Recruit speakers outside the CFP - that parallel channel belongs to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-speaker-sourcing`.

The session formats the call offers are an input, chosen upstream by `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-format-selection`.

Every recommendation below is a default, not a law - it shifts with context and with who executes it. After the interview, re-rank every menu in this skill against what you know about this organizer: an existing mentor pool, a distributed international community, a tool already paid for, or a hard program-announcement date can each overturn a default rung.

## Interview

Ask one question at a time, multiple-choice where possible. Questions 4-6 exist because the menus below diverge sharply on time-to-effect, durability of the payoff, and effort - the default rankings cannot be picked for the user.

1. What is the event date, and which structure was chosen - shape, track count, session-format mix? If no structure exists yet, route to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-format-selection` first: a CFP cannot offer formats nobody has picked.
2. Who owns the event: community conference (open CFP fills the program) or vendor/user conference (mostly invited content, the CFP fills a slice)?
