## What it does

The skill reads Yahoo Finance data through `yfinance` and lays out the consensus for a ticker: EPS and revenue for `0q`, `+1q`, `0y` and `+1y`, the low-to-high range, the analyst count, and year-over-year growth per period. A range wider than 15% of consensus gets flagged as high uncertainty, coverage under 5 analysts as thin.

Revisions carry most of the signal. `eps_trend` compares today's estimate with its value 7, 30, 60 and 90 days back, `eps_revisions` counts upward and downward moves and turns them into a ratio, above 0.7 bullish and below 0.3 bearish. `growth_estimates` sets expected growth next to industry, sector and the S&P 500. `earnings_history` gives estimate versus actual for the last 4 quarters, so the beat rate is visible.

A routing table in `SKILL.md` picks the depth: ask specifically about revisions and you get the revision sections, ask broadly and you get all five. Before any query runs, the skill checks whether `yfinance` is installed and installs it with `pip` if not. That means Python, and a machine that can reach a package index. Treat the output as research material, not advice.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill estimate-analysis -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/estimate-analysis/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/estimate-analysis/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill estimate-analysis -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/estimate-analysis/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill estimate-analysis -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/estimate-analysis/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install himself65/finance-skills estimate-analysis
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/estimate-analysis/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill estimate-analysis -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/himself65/finance-skills --path plugins/market-analysis/skills/estimate-analysis
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/estimate-analysis/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill estimate-analysis -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- compare EPS consensus for the current and next quarter
- count up and down revisions over the last 30 days
- measure the spread between the high and low estimate
- benchmark expected growth against the sector and the S&P 500
- check how often the company beat consensus over 4 quarters

## Example prompts
- Walk me through analyst estimates for `NVDA`: how the EPS consensus moved over 7, 30 and 90 days.
- Show the revenue estimate range for next quarter and how many analysts are covering.
- Compare `AAPL` growth estimates with its sector and the S&P 500.

# Estimate Analysis Skill

If your host has not already executed the shell probes below (for example, in Codex), run the commands inside the `!` wrappers with its shell tool before choosing a setup path. Use the actual output; if shell access is unavailable, report that limitation.

Deep-dives into analyst estimates and revision trends using Yahoo Finance data via [yfinance](https://github.com/ranaroussi/yfinance). Covers EPS and revenue estimate distributions, revision momentum, growth projections, and multi-period comparisons — the full picture of where the street thinks a company is heading.

**Important**: Data is for research and educational purposes only. Not financial advice. yfinance is not affiliated with Yahoo, Inc.

---

## Step 1: Ensure yfinance Is Available

**Current environment status:**

```
!`python3 -c "exec('try:\n import yfinance\n print(\'yfinance \' + yfinance.__version__ + \' installed\')\nexcept Exception:\n print(\'YFINANCE_NOT_INSTALLED\')')"`
```

If `YFINANCE_NOT_INSTALLED`, install it:

```python
import subprocess, sys
subprocess.check_call([sys.executable, "-m", "pip", "install", "-q", "yfinance"])
```

If already installed, skip to the next step.

---

## Step 2: Identify the Ticker and Gather Estimate Data

Extract the ticker from the user's request. Fetch all estimate-related data in one script.

```python
import yfinance as yf
import pandas as pd
ticker = yf.Ticker("AAPL")  # replace with actual ticker
# --- Estimate data ---
earnings_est = ticker.earnings_estimate      # EPS estimates by period
revenue_est = ticker.revenue_estimate        # Revenue estimates by period
eps_trend = ticker.eps_trend                 # EPS estimate changes over time
