## What it does

This skill sends requests to the eQTL Catalogue API through `scripts/rest_request.py`. It targets association lookups and documented metadata endpoints, favouring filtered queries over broad lists. By default, the agent turns the script’s JSON response into a short Markdown summary; raw JSON is returned when explicitly requested.

Requests use an API address and a path. Examples cover study listings and association searches using `gene_id`, `rsid`, or `variant_id`; the script also supplies compatibility parameters for association calls. The public API has returned `400` and `500` errors and timed out with documented parameters, so upstream failures can interrupt a query. The skill is listed for Codex and ChatGPT.

## Install

### Codex (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill eqtl-catalogue-skill -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/eqtl-catalogue-skill/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Claude Code

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill eqtl-catalogue-skill -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/eqtl-catalogue-skill/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/eqtl-catalogue-skill/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/eqtl-catalogue-skill/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install openai/plugins eqtl-catalogue-skill
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/eqtl-catalogue-skill/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/openai/plugins --path plugins/life-science-research/skills/eqtl-catalogue-skill
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/eqtl-catalogue-skill/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/openai/plugins/tree/HEAD/plugins/life-science-research/skills/eqtl-catalogue-skill/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- look up associations for a gene and variant
- browse studies in the catalogue
- summarize an API response in Markdown
- retrieve data from documented metadata endpoints

## Example prompts
- Find associations for gene `ENSG00000141510` and variant `rs7903146`.
- Show a few entries from the eQTL Catalogue study list.
- Summarize the association results for `rs7903146`.
