## What it does

This skill helps Claude Code manage Railway infrastructure straight from your project. It duplicates existing environments, updates start commands, manages replica counts, and binds services to GitHub repositories. It also handles variable updates and service removals.

Calls route through `railway-cli` alongside the `railway-api.sh` helper for GraphQL mutations. Commands wrap in a bash heredoc block. This prevents shell expansion from breaking multiline strings or exclamation marks inside GraphQL schemas.

The workflow depends on an active `railway-cli` installation. You must link your local directory to a Railway project before querying context.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill railway/environment
```

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill environment -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/environment/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/environment/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/environment/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/environment/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install davila7/claude-code-templates environment
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/environment/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates --path cli-tool/components/skills/railway/environment
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/environment/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/skills/railway/environment

## When to use it
- clone a production environment into staging
- change build and startup commands for Railway services
- manage service and shared environment variables
- link a GitHub repository branch to a service

## Example prompts
- Duplicate production environment to staging with PORT=3001 on api service
- Show resolved runtime variables for the current Railway service
- Update buildCommand to npm run build and stage the patch
