## What it does

The skill helps classify an incident as P0–P3 and select an appropriate release path. Its criteria cover security flaws, outages, payment failures, data integrity problems, and critical features. It then guides the agent toward a hotfix branch and a narrowly scoped change.

The workflow includes a regression test, checks with `pnpm test`, `pnpm tsc --noEmit`, and `pnpm build`, plus a PR structure with impact, root cause, rollback, monitoring, and post-deploy verification. It also keeps follow-up work visible after the emergency change.

The verification steps rely on `pnpm`, so a project that does not use it needs equivalent test and build commands before this flow can be followed as written.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill emergency-release-workflow -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/emergency-release-workflow/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/emergency-release-workflow/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill emergency-release-workflow -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/emergency-release-workflow/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill emergency-release-workflow -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/emergency-release-workflow/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills emergency-release-workflow
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/emergency-release-workflow/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill emergency-release-workflow -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/universal/emergency/emergency-release-workflow
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/emergency-release-workflow/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill emergency-release-workflow -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- classify a production incident by urgency
- create a hotfix branch from `main`
- run tests and build checks for the fix
- prepare a PR with rollback details
- verify the service after deployment

## Example prompts
- Classify this production incident as P0–P3 and outline the emergency release path.
- Create a hotfix branch from `main`, make the smallest fix, and add a regression test.
- Draft a critical-fix PR with validation steps, monitoring, and a rollback plan.

# Emergency Release Workflow Skill

## Summary
Fast-track workflow for critical production issues requiring immediate deployment. Covers urgency assessment, expedited PR process, deployment verification, and post-incident analysis.

## When to Use
- Critical production bugs affecting users
- Security vulnerabilities (CVEs)
- Urgent business requirements
- Data integrity issues
- Service outages
- Payment processing failures

## Urgency Assessment

### Priority Levels
| Level | Type | Response Time | Deployment | Example |
|-------|------|---------------|------------|---------|
| **P0** | Security vulnerability | < 2 hours | Immediate to production | Auth bypass, data leak, active exploit |
| **P1** | Production down | < 4 hours | Same day | App crash, complete feature failure, payment down |
| **P2** | Major bug | < 24 hours | Next business day | Critical feature broken, significant user impact |
| **P3** | Business critical | < 48 hours | Scheduled release | Marketing campaign blocker, partner deadline |

### P0 Criteria (Immediate Action)
- Authentication/authorization bypass
- Data breach or exposure
- Remote code execution vulnerability
- Production service completely unavailable
- Data corruption affecting multiple users
- Payment processing completely broken

### P1 Criteria (Same Day)
- Critical feature completely broken
- Error affecting majority of users
- Revenue-impacting bug
- Database connectivity issues
- Third-party integration failure (critical service)

### P2 Criteria (Next Business Day)
- Major feature partially broken
- Affects specific user segment
- Workaround available but not ideal
- Performance degradation (not complete failure)

---

## Emergency Release Process

### 1. Create Hotfix Branch
```bash
# Branch from current production (main)
git checkout main
git pull origin main
# Create hotfix branch
git checkout -b hotfix/ENG-XXX-brief-description
# Example:
git checkout -b hotfix/ENG-1234-fix-auth-bypass
```

### 2. Implement Minimal Fix
```
⚠️ CRITICAL: Minimal change only
DO:
✅ Fix the immediate issue
✅ Add regression test
✅ Document root cause in comments
DON'T:
❌ Refactor surrounding code
❌ Fix unrelated issues
❌ Add new features
❌ Update dependencies (unless that's the fix)
