## What it does

This skill turns text or a scene list into voice tracks through the ElevenLabs API. A scene file can define the voice, delivery style, duration, and delay; presets include narrator, salesperson, expert, conversational, dramatic, and calm. Scene requests can be stitched so the delivery stays consistent across the sequence.

The `generate.js` script can rebuild one scene with revised text or a different preset, validate generated audio with `ffprobe`, and attach a PNG or JPG thumbnail to an MP4 file. Generation will not run without `ELEVENLABS_API_KEY` in `.env.local`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Maartenlouis/elevenlabs-remotion-skill --skill elevenlabs-remotion -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Maartenlouis/elevenlabs-remotion-skill --skill elevenlabs-remotion -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/elevenlabs-remotion/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Maartenlouis/elevenlabs-remotion-skill --skill elevenlabs-remotion -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/elevenlabs-remotion/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Maartenlouis/elevenlabs-remotion-skill elevenlabs-remotion
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/elevenlabs-remotion/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Maartenlouis/elevenlabs-remotion-skill --skill elevenlabs-remotion -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Maartenlouis/elevenlabs-remotion-skill
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/elevenlabs-remotion/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Maartenlouis/elevenlabs-remotion-skill --skill elevenlabs-remotion -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Maartenlouis/elevenlabs-remotion-skill/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- create narration for a Remotion video
- turn a scene list into audio files
- redo one scene with revised wording
- check generated audio timing
- attach a thumbnail to an MP4

## Example prompts
- Generate a voiceover from this script and save it as `public/audio/voiceover.mp3`.
- Create audio for `remotion/scenes.json` with the narrator preset and write the files to `public/audio/project/`.
- Regenerate `scene2` with updated wording, then validate the timing of the project audio.

# ElevenLabs Voiceover Generation

Generate professional AI voiceovers for Remotion videos using ElevenLabs API.

## Prerequisites

- `ELEVENLABS_API_KEY` in `.env.local`

## Quick Start

```bash
# Generate voiceover from text
node .claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion-skill/generate.js --text "Your text here" --output public/audio/voiceover.mp3
# Generate with narrator style (more natural)
node .claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion-skill/generate.js --text "Your text" --character narrator --output voiceover.mp3
# Generate scenes with request stitching
node .claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion-skill/generate.js --scenes remotion/scenes.json --output-dir public/audio/project/
# Regenerate a single scene
node .claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion-skill/generate.js --scenes scenes.json --scene scene2 --new-text "Updated text"
# List available voices and character presets
node .claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion-skill/generate.js --list-voices
node .claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion-skill/generate.js --list-characters
```

## Character Presets

Use character presets for more natural voiceovers instead of literal screen text reading:

| Character | Description | Best For |
|-----------|-------------|----------|
| `literal` | Reads text exactly as written | Screen text, quotes |
| `narrator` | Professional storyteller, smooth, engaging | Explainers, documentaries |
| `salesperson` | Enthusiastic, persuasive, energetic | Marketing, ads |
| `expert` | Authoritative, confident, knowledgeable | Legal content, tutorials |
| `conversational` | Casual, friendly, natural | Social media, casual content |
| `dramatic` | Intense, emotional, impactful | Hooks, problem statements |
| `calm` | Soothing, reassuring, gentle | Trust-building, conclusions |

```bash
# Use narrator style globally
node .claude/skills/elevenlabs-remotion-skill/generate.js --scenes scenes.json --character narrator --output-dir public/audio/
# Or set per-scene in scenes.json
{
  "scenes": [
    { "id": "scene1", "text": "Problem statement", "character": "dramatic" },
    { "id": "scene2", "text": "Solution", "character": "calm" }
  ]
}
```

## Scene-Based Generation with Request Stitching

Generate multiple scenes with consistent prosody using ElevenLabs request stitching:

### scenes.json Format

```json
{
  "name": "product-demo",
  "voice": "George",
  "character": "narrator",
  "scenes": [
    {
      "id": "scene1",
      "text": "Generic text-to-speech sounds robotic. Your brand deserves better.",
      "duration": 4.5,
      "character": "dramatic"
    },
    {
      "id": "scene2",
