## What it does

The skill prepares a repository built with the Effect Typescript library. It installs `effect@latest` with `pnpm`; in a monorepo, it advises adding the package as a dev dependency at the root so the source is available under `node_modules/effect/src`.

It also adds guidance to `AGENTS.md` or `CLAUDE.md`. Before writing Effect code, the agent must read `node_modules/effect/AGENTS.md` completely, follow relevant links, and search `node_modules/effect/src` when the guide does not cover an API or concept. Check the monorepo root first, because that is where the package is installed.

The skill is available for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, and OpenCode.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Effect-TS/skills --skill effect-ts -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/effect-ts/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/effect-ts/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Effect-TS/skills --skill effect-ts -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/effect-ts/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Effect-TS/skills --skill effect-ts -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/effect-ts/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Effect-TS/skills effect-ts
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/effect-ts/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Effect-TS/skills --skill effect-ts -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Effect-TS/skills --path skills/effect-ts
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/effect-ts/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Effect-TS/skills --skill effect-ts -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Effect-TS/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/effect-ts/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- set up a repository that uses Effect Typescript
- install `effect@latest` with `pnpm`
- add agent guidance for Effect code
- search Effect APIs in the library source

## Example prompts
- Set up this repository for Effect Typescript and update `AGENTS.md`.
- Before writing Effect code, read `node_modules/effect/AGENTS.md` completely and follow the relevant links.
- If the guide does not cover the API, search for it in `node_modules/effect/src`.

# Step 1: Install effect

Use the users preferred package manager:

```
pnpm add effect@latest
```

If in a monorepo, install it as a dev dependency at the root, so you can access
the source code from `node_modules/effect/src`.

```
pnpm add -D effect@latest
```

# Step 2: Update AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md

Ensure that the agent instructions contain the following:

```md
# Learning more about Effect
This repository uses the Effect Typescript library.
Before writing any Effect code, first read `node_modules/effect/AGENTS.md`
**completely**, and follow the links in the file when required.
If you need to learn more about particular Effect apis and concepts that the
guide doesn't cover, search through the source code in `node_modules/effect/src`.
```
