## What it does

This skill guides coding agents through a full design system direction that merges editorial layouts with engineered product interfaces. It swaps centered SaaS blocks for multi-column grids, offset alignments, and panoramic media bands. Large display headlines pair with quiet sans-serif or mono utility labels, timeline ticks, and fine divider rules.

Surfaces remain muted. Dark panels, thin outlines, and soft gradient borders replace loud glassmorphism. Motion follows technical discipline, using slow drifts, masked reveals, and subtle line brightening instead of playful bounces. The palette relies on dark or light neutrals, keeping color accents limited to active badges, counters, and key buttons.

The skill explicitly conflicts with overdecorated sci-fi chrome, multi-color palettes, and stock marketing layouts.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill editorial-tech -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/editorial-tech/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/editorial-tech/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill editorial-tech -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/editorial-tech/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill editorial-tech -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/editorial-tech/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install MengTo/Skills editorial-tech
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/editorial-tech/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill editorial-tech -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/MengTo/Skills --path agent-skills/web-design/editorial-tech
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/editorial-tech/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill editorial-tech -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- build asymmetrical multi-column layouts with deliberate negative space
- format technical metadata and step lists using mono utility labels
- replace generic centered SaaS hero sections with cinematic media bands
- enforce a restrained color scheme focused on a single active accent

## Example prompts
- Build a product hero section using the editorial-tech layout with an asymmetrical grid
- Style this timeline step list with mono counters, fine borders, and muted panels
- Refactor the landing page navigation into a sparse top bar following editorial-tech guidelines

# Editorial Tech Skill

## Use When
- Blend editorial magazine composition with precision product-tech detailing using asymmetrical grids, cinematic media bands, mono utility labels, and restrained accent color.

## Workflow

## Scope
- Apply this as a full design-system style direction across layout, typography, surfaces, media treatment, navigation, and motion.
- Use it when the design should feel like a premium editorial spread merged with a high-end technology product interface.
- This is not generic corporate SaaS and not pure magazine minimalism; it should sit in the middle with narrative composition plus precise technical detailing.

## Visual target
- Build asymmetrical editorial compositions with strong column structure, deliberate negative space, and clear spatial rhythm.
- Pair large expressive headline moments with quieter utility text, mono labels, small metadata, and measured supporting copy.
- Use cinematic media bands, panoramic image strips, inset photography panels, or immersive visual slices to create narrative flow across the layout.
- Add fine divider lines, grid traces, subtle borders, section rules, and technical markers so the page feels engineered rather than soft or lifestyle-first.
- Keep the palette restrained: mostly dark neutrals or controlled light neutrals, with one active accent color derived from the brand or design system.

## Implementation guidance
- Favor multi-column layouts, offset alignment, and editorial cropping instead of centered generic SaaS hero blocks.
- Use one display-oriented type treatment for hero or section headlines, then support it with clean sans-serif or mono utility text for labels, steps, timestamps, and UI annotations.
- Surfaces should feel premium and quiet: dark panels, muted fills, thin strokes, gradient-border shells, or lightly luminous overlays instead of loud glassmorphism.
- Introduce cinematic horizontal bands or framed media regions that can cut across the grid and overlap adjacent columns in a controlled way.
- Add subtle motion such as masked text reveals, calm parallax, slow media drift, or hover-state line brightening. Motion should feel intentional and technical, never playful or bouncy.
- Accent color use should be selective: active states, numeric highlights, current steps, progress indicators, focal separators, or key call-to-action surfaces.

## Recommended patterns
- Navigation: sparse top bars with wide spacing, muted links, and a precise central mark or framed logo treatment.
