## What it does

The skill guides landing pages, marketing sites, dashboards, auth flows, portfolios, product surfaces, and reusable frontend sections away from generic AI-style output. It starts by defining the user goal, key tasks, emotional tone, visual thesis, content plan, and interaction ideas before code changes begin.

Its design system covers a 12-column structure, 8-point spacing, semantic tokens, responsive behavior, and WCAG 2.1 AA contrast. Reference sections cover typography, color, textures, imagery, motion, apps, landing pages, utility copy, and anti-pattern checks. CSS animations are the default; React work can use Motion or Framer Motion, while scroll entry should use Intersection Observer. The skill points to `design-principles.md`; EdgeSpark-specific implementation work should be paired with `building-edgespark-apps`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add edgesparkhq/agent-skills --skill edgespark-frontend-design -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/edgespark-frontend-design/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/edgespark-frontend-design/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add edgesparkhq/agent-skills --skill edgespark-frontend-design -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/edgespark-frontend-design/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add edgesparkhq/agent-skills --skill edgespark-frontend-design -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/edgespark-frontend-design/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install edgesparkhq/agent-skills edgespark-frontend-design
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/edgespark-frontend-design/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add edgesparkhq/agent-skills --skill edgespark-frontend-design -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/edgesparkhq/agent-skills --path skills/edgespark-frontend-design
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/edgespark-frontend-design/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add edgesparkhq/agent-skills --skill edgespark-frontend-design -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- shape a visual direction for a new frontend
- redesign a generic-looking landing page
- align type, color, spacing, and hierarchy
- add scroll-triggered motion with a clear purpose
- check responsive behavior and contrast

## Example prompts
- Redesign this EdgeSpark landing page with a clear visual thesis, stronger hierarchy, and one memorable visual move.
- Review the dashboard for generic patterns, then fix its typography, color system, responsive layout, and WCAG 2.1 AA contrast.
- Add scroll-entry effects with Intersection Observer and use Motion for React where the chosen direction needs it.

# EdgeSpark Frontend Design

Use this skill to turn safe, average UI into deliberate visual design with strong hierarchy, clearer art direction, and higher content quality.

Consult [design-principles.md](references/design-principles.md) for doctrine, asset strategy, implementation details, and anti-patterns. Load the sections relevant to your task.

## Design Stack

Apply the design standard in layers instead of relying on one vague "make it modern" pass:

1. Start with the base web system: context-first framing, 12-column structure, 8-point spacing, semantic tokens, responsive behavior, and WCAG 2.1 AA contrast.
2. Add the aesthetic lift: softer neutral or premium palettes, asymmetrical composition, dramatic typography contrast, generous whitespace, refined textures, and stronger motion direction.
3. Enforce the anti-generic bans from the reference before shipping.

This layering is what prevents the model from drifting into safe but mediocre frontend output.

## Workflow

### 1. Frame the design

Before touching code, derive:

- user goal
- audience
- primary tasks
- key content types
- success metric
- emotional tone
- one unforgettable visual move
- visual thesis: one sentence describing mood, material, and energy
- content plan: hero, support, detail, final CTA when the task is a landing page or marketing surface
- interaction thesis: 2-3 specific motion ideas that change the feel of the page

Give each section one job, one dominant visual idea, and one primary takeaway or action.

Choose a concrete direction instead of a vague "modern" target. Pick an extreme that fits the product, such as editorial, luxury, industrial, playful, organic, brutalist, or retro-futuristic.
Map a minimal user journey and reflect it in layout, hierarchy, and copy.

### 2. Diagnose weak UI before changing it

For redesign work, inspect the current UI and answer:

- are the colors visually fatiguing, cheap-looking, or too vibrant
- is the layout overly traditional, symmetrical, or monotonous
```
