## What it does

The skill runs `uvx edge-tts` in your terminal to transform text inputs into audio files. Your environment must have `uvx` available, because the command relies on it to fetch and execute the speech engine directly.

It supports adjustments for speech rate and pitch using command flags like `--rate` or `--pitch`. You can also generate matching subtitle streams directly to standard output or a file with `--write-subtitles`.

Voice selection is handled through the `--voice` argument. When you need to inspect supported accents or languages, the command `uvx edge-tts --list-voices` outputs the full catalog of available speakers.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aahl/skills --skill edge-tts -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/edge-tts/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/edge-tts/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aahl/skills --skill edge-tts -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/edge-tts/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aahl/skills --skill edge-tts -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/edge-tts/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aahl/skills edge-tts
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/edge-tts/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aahl/skills --skill edge-tts -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aahl/skills --path skills/edge-tts
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/edge-tts/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aahl/skills --skill edge-tts -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/aahl/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/edge-tts/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- convert text into MP3 audio using neural voice models
- generate synchronized subtitles alongside the audio file
- adjust playback rate and pitch of generated speech
- switch between different language speakers via the `--voice` flag

## Example prompts
- Convert this text to speech and save it as audio.mp3
- Run tts for this summary using voice en-US-JennyNeural
- Check available speakers with uvx edge-tts --list-voices

# Edge-TTS

Generate high-quality text-to-speech audio using Microsoft Edge's neural TTS service via the `uvx edge-tts` command.
Supports multiple languages, voices, adjustable speed/pitch, and subtitle generation.

## Usage
```shell
uvx edge-tts --text "{msg}" --write-media {tempdir}/{filename}.mp3
# With subtitles
uvx edge-tts --text "{msg}" --write-media {tempdir}/{filename}.mp3 --write-subtitles -
```

## Changing rate(speed), volume and pitch
```shell
uvx edge-tts --text "{msg}" --write-media {tempdir}/{filename}.mp3 --rate=+50%
uvx edge-tts --text "{msg}" --write-media {tempdir}/{filename}.mp3 --volume=+50% --pitch=-50Hz
```

## Changing the voice
```shell
uvx edge-tts --text "{msg}" --write-media {tempdir}/{filename}.mp3 --voice zh-CN-XiaoxiaoNeural
