## What it does

The skill kicks in when you build an Apache ECharts chart, chase a blank canvas or a broken resize, set up a theme, or push a large dataset through. It walks the agent through a decision tree: first check whether the project already has chart components and reuse their init, theme and resize handling. If ECharts is not there yet, the agent picks a wrapper per framework — `echarts-for-react` for React, `vue-echarts` for Vue 3, or plain `echarts.init` on a sized container.

Inside are lifecycle and data rules. One `init` per container, `resize()` when the container changes size, `dispose()` on unmount. Updates go through `setOption`: default merge mode for streaming data, `notMerge: true` when the chart type changes. For large datasets the skill points to the `dataset` component with `source` and `encode`; for time series, an axis of `type: 'time'` with `[timestamp, value]` pairs.

Before you install, two things. The skill needs a JavaScript package manager, and `echarts` itself has to be installed in the target project — framework wrappers are optional. The sharper catch: with tree-shaking, a missing component registration fails as a `console.error`, not a thrown exception, so unit tests pass silently over it. Worth asserting on the console or the rendered output. The skill does not pick chart types and does not touch other charting libraries.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sentimony/skills --skill echarts -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/echarts/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/echarts/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sentimony/skills --skill echarts -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/echarts/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sentimony/skills --skill echarts -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/echarts/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install sentimony/skills echarts
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/echarts/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sentimony/skills --skill echarts -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/sentimony/skills --path plugins/echarts/skills/echarts
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/echarts/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sentimony/skills --skill echarts -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/sentimony/skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/echarts/skills/echarts/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build an ECharts chart in React or Vue without fighting the lifecycle
- fix a blank chart that never rendered inside a hidden tab
- wire up resize when the container changes size
- register only the ECharts modules you use and trim the bundle
- find out why old series linger after switching chart type

## Example prompts
- Build a sales chart with ECharts in React, the container is already there
- The chart goes blank when I switch tabs — find out why
- Set up resize and dispose for ECharts in my Vue component

# ECharts

Use this skill to build, audit, or fix Apache ECharts charts without turning the task into an option-reference lookup. Match the project's existing setup first; only introduce wrappers or new dependencies when the project has none.

## Decision Tree

```
User task -> Does the project already use ECharts?
    - Yes -> Find existing chart components/helpers, reuse their init, theme,
             and resize patterns. Match import style (full vs echarts/core).
    - No, and the task is an audit -> write an applicability check (section 0 of
             references/audit.md) and stop; do not add the dependency
    - No -> Pick integration by framework:
        - React -> echarts-for-react wrapper, or a small hook around
                   init/dispose if the project avoids extra deps
        - Vue 3 -> vue-echarts wrapper, or composable around init/dispose
        - Vanilla / other -> echarts.init on a sized container
Next -> Bundle size a concern (app ships to users)?
    - Yes -> Import from 'echarts/core' and register only the used charts,
             components, and renderer (tree-shaking)
    - No / internal tool / prototype -> import * as echarts from 'echarts'
Then -> Build the smallest working option, render it, then layer on
        interactivity (tooltip, dataZoom, toolbox) and theming.
```

## Core Workflow

1. Inspect first: find existing ECharts usage, themes, and shared option helpers before writing a new chart.
2. Size the container: the container element must have non-zero width and height **before** `echarts.init` runs; a chart in a display:none or unmounted tab renders blank.
3. Own the lifecycle: one `init` per container, `resize()` on container size change, `dispose()` on unmount. Wrappers handle this; hand-rolled code must.
4. Update via `setOption`: default merge mode for incremental updates (streaming, new data); `notMerge: true` when the chart type or structure changes.
