## What it does

The skill hands your agent the same numbers that sit behind the update and channel pages on expo.dev, but in the terminal. It drives `eas update:list`, `eas update:insights`, `eas update:view --insights` and `eas channel:insights`, and reads the answers as either human-readable output or JSON. Handy right after a publish, when you need to know whether the release is holding up.

Metrics are reported per update group: launches, failed launches, crash rate, unique users, launch asset count and average payload size. Everything is split by platform, and there is a daily series of installs and failures so a sudden spike in errors is easy to spot. For a channel plus runtime version you also get how many users are still on the embedded build and how many are receiving over-the-air updates.

You need `eas-cli` installed (`npm install -g eas-cli`) and a session from `eas login`. Run `channel:insights` from an Expo project directory, since it resolves the project ID from `app.json`; `update:insights` only needs the login. One thing to watch: this is a paid Expo Application Services product with free-tier limits, and update delivery plus these queries both count against your plan's usage. In scripts and CI pass `--json --non-interactive` — without a branch flag or `--all`, `update:list` will otherwise prompt for a branch. Per-user crash detail and device-level reporting are not part of what the skill returns, only aggregates.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add expo/skills --skill eas-update-insights -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/eas-update-insights/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/eas-update-insights/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add expo/skills --skill eas-update-insights -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/eas-update-insights/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add expo/skills --skill eas-update-insights -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/eas-update-insights/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install expo/skills eas-update-insights
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/eas-update-insights/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add expo/skills --skill eas-update-insights -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/expo/skills --path plugins/expo/skills/eas-update-insights
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/eas-update-insights/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add expo/skills --skill eas-update-insights -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/expo/skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/expo/skills/eas-update-insights/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check whether crash rate climbed after a rollout
- count unique users and installs for an update group
- see how many users are on the embedded build vs OTA
- size up the average payload and launch asset count
- find the most popular update on a channel for a runtime version

## Example prompts
- How is the latest update doing?
- How many users are on the embedded build vs OTA on production?
- Get the group ID of the latest update on the production branch and show 30-day insights

# EAS Update Insights

> **EAS service - costs apply.** Insights cover updates published through EAS Update, a paid Expo Application Services product with free-tier limits. Update delivery and the data behind these commands count against your plan's EAS Update usage. Review https://expo.dev/pricing.

Query the health of published EAS Update directly from the CLI: launches, failed launches, crash rates, unique users, payload size, the embedded-vs-OTA user split per channel, and the most popular updates per runtime version. The data is the same data that powers the update and channel detail pages on expo.dev; these commands expose it in the terminal in human and JSON form.

## When to use this skill

Use this when the user wants to assess the health or adoption of a published EAS Update: crash rates, install counts, unique users, bundle size, or the split between embedded and OTA users on a channel.

Example prompts:

- "How is the latest update doing?"
- "Is the latest update healthy?"
- "Is the new release crashing more than the last one?"
- "How many users are on the latest update vs the embedded build?"
- "Which update is most popular on production right now?"
- "How big is our update bundle?"

Also fits: post-publish rollout monitoring and regression detection.

Don't use when the user needs per-user crash detail or device-level reporting; this skill only exposes aggregate EAS metrics.

## Prerequisites

- `eas-cli` installed (`npm install -g eas-cli`).
- Logged in: `eas login`.
- For `channel:insights`: run from an Expo project directory (the command resolves the project ID from `app.json`). `update:insights` only needs a login.

## Commands at a glance

| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
| `eas update:list` | Discover recent update groups, their `group` IDs, and branch names |
