## What it does

The skill covers the whole path of a work item in DevOps Center: list them, create one, update subject, description or status, commit changes to the item branch, walk it through New → In Progress → Ready to Promote, and open a pull request for review. Everything goes through `sf devops work-item` with `--json` output, which makes it usable in headless release workflows.

Commits take one of two paths. Give the skill a dev org alias and changes already deployed there, and it tries the DevOps Center commit API first: it preflights `GET /connect/devops/doceConnectionType` on the dev org, and falls back to git if that call fails or `isCore` is not `true`. Otherwise it uses git, retrieving changes from the dev org with `sf project retrieve start` when needed. The API path needs aliases for both the dev org and the hub org.

Before any operation the skill checks authentication with `sf org display --json`. With no default org set, you run `sf org login web --set-default --alias <alias>` yourself. It expects `sf` 2.0.0 or newer, `git` 2.0.0 or newer and `jq` 1.6 or newer, with API version 58.0 as the floor. Promotion, deployment and conflict detection are out of scope — those live in `dx-devops-promote`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-work-item-manage -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dx-devops-work-item-manage/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dx-devops-work-item-manage/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-work-item-manage -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dx-devops-work-item-manage/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-work-item-manage -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dx-devops-work-item-manage/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills dx-devops-work-item-manage
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dx-devops-work-item-manage/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-work-item-manage -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/dx-devops-work-item-manage
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dx-devops-work-item-manage/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-work-item-manage -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/dx-devops-work-item-manage/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- list every work item in a project and filter by status
- create a work item with a subject and description from chat
- commit changes to a work item branch via the commit API or git
- advance a work item from New to In Progress and onward
- open a pull request on a work item branch for review

## Example prompts
- list work items for Project Alpha
- create a work item to fix the login bug
- move WI-12345 to In Progress

# DevOps Center Work Item Management

Manages the complete work item lifecycle in DevOps Center — from creation through status transitions to promotion readiness. Provides headless CLI-driven operations for autonomous release workflows.

## Scope

- **In scope**: List work items, create new work items, commit changes to work item branches, update work item fields (subject, description, status), transition work item status (New → In Progress → Ready to Promote), create pull requests for work item branches
- **Out of scope**: Promotion/deployment, conflict detection, pipeline or project management (separate skills)

---

## Required Inputs

Gather or infer before proceeding:

- **Operation type**: list, create, update, commit, or create-review
- **For list**: project ID (required) — obtain via `sf devops project list --json` if not provided
- **For create**: project ID (required), subject (required), description (optional)
- **For commit**: work item name or ID (required), commit message, and either the files to commit (git path) or the components to commit (API path). Optional: **dev org alias** — the org that holds the changes. When provided, try the DevOps Center commit API first (see step 5); otherwise use git
```
