## What it does

The skill runs inside a local clone of the Git repository connected to DevOps Center. It first checks that the working tree is clean, then trial-merges the target stage branch into the work item's feature branch without committing, and lists the conflicted files. A clean merge leaves the tree untouched and means you can promote. If conflicts show up, the skill starts the real merge and works through each file: where one side is clearly right it takes it with `git checkout --ours` or `--theirs`, and where both sides carry needed edits it reconciles the `<<<<<<<` / `=======` / `>>>>>>>` regions into one version by hand.

A second track handles a failed deploy. The skill reads the promotion's error output, tells a merge conflict apart from a deploy error, and parses a missing-dependency message. Then it works out whether a full promotion can fix it: if the component already exists on the feature branch, a full promotion may clear the problem; otherwise the component has to be added first.

It needs `git` 2.23 or newer, `jq` 1.6 or newer and `sf` 2.0.0 or newer. Access is gated on `OrgPreferences.ALMDevopsCorePref` and `UserPermissions.UserHasDevOpsCore`. The skill does not run the promotion itself — that is `dx-devops-promote`, and work items belong to `dx-devops-work-item-manage`. A trial merge on a dirty tree is unsafe, so the skill asks you to commit or stash first.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-conflict-resolve -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dx-devops-conflict-resolve/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dx-devops-conflict-resolve/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-conflict-resolve -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dx-devops-conflict-resolve/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-conflict-resolve -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dx-devops-conflict-resolve/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills dx-devops-conflict-resolve
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dx-devops-conflict-resolve/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-conflict-resolve -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/dx-devops-conflict-resolve
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dx-devops-conflict-resolve/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-devops-conflict-resolve -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/dx-devops-conflict-resolve/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check a work item for conflicts before promoting
- resolve merge conflicts in metadata files and commit them
- reconcile a feature branch with its target stage branch
- find out why a promotion deploy failed
- tell a merge conflict from a deploy error and parse a missing dependency

## Example prompts
- Check feature/WI-101 for conflicts against uat before promoting
- Resolve the conflicts in .object-meta.xml and push the work item branch
- The promotion failed with a missing dependency error — work out whether a full promotion fixes it

Deploy failures often cite a missing dependency a full promotion can fix when the component already exists on the branch. TRIGGER when the user wants to check a work item for conflicts before promoting, resolve merge conflicts or leftover conflict markers in metadata files (.xml, .object-meta.xml, .cls), reconcile a feature branch with its target stage branch, or diagnose why a DevOps Center promotion or deployment failed and whether a full promotion or a missing-dependency fix will resolve it. DO NOT TRIGGER for running the promotion itself (use dx-devops-promote), creating or updating work items (use dx-devops-work-item-manage), or deploying metadata directly to an org."
