# dx-code-analyzer-run

Runs Salesforce Code Analyzer over your project and works through the results: engines, categories, severities, auto-fixes. Useful ahead of an AppExchange review.

## What it does

The skill turns a request like "scan my code for security issues" into the right `sf code-analyzer run` call. It covers PMD, ESLint, CPD, RetireJS, Flow, SFGE and ApexGuru, and scans single files, folders or a `git diff`. After the scan it slices the report by engine, severity, category or file, and explains what a rule such as `ApexCRUDViolation` actually flags.

Results are handled only through the scripts bundled with the skill: `parse-results.js`, `query-results.js`, `list-rules.js`, `describe-rule.js`. Parsing the JSON with `jq`, Python or a direct read of a 10MB+ file is off limits, because `query-results.js` already returns top rules, top files and severity counts. There is also `discover-fixes.js` and `apply-fixes.js` — the skill finds fixable violations, shows them, and applies changes only after you confirm.

You need Salesforce CLI, `@salesforce/plugin-code-analyzer` v5.x or newer, Java 11+, Node.js 18+, Python 3, and an authenticated org for ApexGuru. When an engine fails to start, the skill stops instead of trying to repair your environment and hands off to `dx-code-analyzer-configure`. Setup and custom rule authoring live in separate skills.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-run -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dx-code-analyzer-run/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dx-code-analyzer-run/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-run -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dx-code-analyzer-run/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-run -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dx-code-analyzer-run/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills dx-code-analyzer-run
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dx-code-analyzer-run/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-run -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/dx-code-analyzer-run
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dx-code-analyzer-run/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-run -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/dx-code-analyzer-run/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- run static analysis on Apex and LWC before a release
- find duplicated code with CPD
- check the project for vulnerable libraries
- filter violations by severity and engine
- understand what the ApexCRUDViolation rule wants

## Example prompts
- scan my code for security issues
- run PMD and ESLint on the force-app folder
- explain what the ApexCRUDViolation rule means

description: "Run Salesforce Code Analyzer to scan code for security, performance, best practice, and code style violations. Supports all engines (PMD, ESLint, CPD, RetireJS, Flow, SFGE, ApexGuru), targets (files, folders, git diff), categories, and severities. Also handles post-scan exploration: filtering results by engine/severity/category/file, and explaining what rules mean. TRIGGER when: user says 'scan my code', 'check security issues', 'run PMD/ESLint', 'find duplicates', 'analyze Flows', 'check vulnerable libraries', 'AppExchange review', 'lint my LWC', 'static analysis', 'code quality', 'show security violations', 'what is this rule', 'explain ApexCRUDViolation', 'filter results', or mentions engines/file types (.cls, .trigger, .js, .flow-meta.xml). Use this skill for scanning, exploring results, and listing rules. DO NOT TRIGGER when: user asks only about installation/configuration (use dx-code-analyzer-configure), or wants to create a custom rule (use dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create)."

# Running Code Analyzer Skill

## CRITICAL: Mandatory Script Usage

Every interaction with Code Analyzer results MUST go through the bundled scripts in `<skill_dir>/scripts/`. No exceptions.

### WRONG — never do this:

```bash
# WRONG: inline Python to parse results
python3 -c "import json; data = json.load(open('results.json'))..."
# WRONG: inline Node.js to parse results
node -e "const data = require('./results.json')..."
# WRONG: jq to filter results
cat results.json | jq '.violations[] | select(.engine=="pmd")'
# WRONG: reading the results file directly (it can be 10MB+)
Read tool → code-analyzer-results-*.json
```

Also forbidden: `run_code_analyzer` and any `mcp__*` tool — Bash only.

### RIGHT — always do this:

```bash
# Summarize scan results
node "<skill_dir>/scripts/parse-results.js" "./code-analyzer-results-TIMESTAMP.json"
# Filter/rank/query results (by engine, severity, file, rule, category)
````

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the a82031c476d3358a tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
