## What it does

This skill generates custom static analysis rules across Regex, PMD, and ESLint engines for Salesforce projects. It inspects Apex code, metadata XML, and LWC files. Before writing any PMD XPath query, the skill executes `sf code-analyzer ast-dump` to inspect the exact AST structure. Blind guessing of AST nodes is strictly forbidden.

Rule entries are written to `code-analyzer.yml` solely through `create-regex-rule.js` and `create-pmd-rule.js`. Manual editing corrupts YAML escaping. When a rule fails validation, the skill deletes the broken block completely and reruns the script with corrected arguments. It validates each rule using `sf code-analyzer rules --rule-selector <engine>:<name>`.

Prerequisites include `sf` version 2.0.0 or higher, `node` 18.0.0+, `npm` 9.0.0+, and `git` 2.0.0+. Hand-editing generated rules breaks YAML parser checks, so script-based serialization remains mandatory. Every rule undergoes individual sequential testing against both positive and negative code samples.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- flag `System.debug` calls in production Apex classes via regex
- spot hardcoded Salesforce record IDs in source code
- write XPath queries against PMD AST to catch anti-patterns
- enforce metadata XML policies on field descriptions and permissions
- override built-in thresholds such as `CyclomaticComplexity`

## Example prompts
- Create a regex rule that flags System.debug in Apex classes
- Write a PMD XPath rule to catch SOQL queries inside for loops
- Add a rule checking that custom fields have descriptions in metadata XML

# dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create: Custom Code Analyzer Rule Authoring

> **Ecosystem:** This skill is part of a 3-skill Code Analyzer suite — `dx-code-analyzer-run` (scans & results) · `dx-code-analyzer-configure` (setup, config, CI/CD) · `dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create` (custom rule authoring).

Use this skill when the user needs to **create a custom rule** that enforces a pattern not covered by Code Analyzer's built-in rules. Supports Regex engine (text pattern matching) and PMD engine (structural XPath queries against the AST).

## When This Skill Owns the Task

Use `dx-code-analyzer-custom-rule-create` when the work involves:
- Creating a new custom rule for Code Analyzer (any engine)
- Enforcing team-specific coding standards via static analysis
- Banning specific patterns (System.debug, hardcoded IDs, TODOs)
- Writing XPath expressions for PMD rules (Apex or metadata XML)
- Writing regex patterns for the Regex engine
