## What it does

The skill teaches an agent to work through problems Dynatrace detects on its own. It queries the `dt.davis.problems` source in DQL: lists active problems, pulls the root cause for an ID like `P-12345`, counts affected users, and shows which entities fall inside the blast radius.

Inside are ready query patterns and a field reference. The agent knows status lives in `event.status` with values `ACTIVE` and `CLOSED`, not in `status`, and that duplicates get filtered with `not(dt.davis.is_duplicate)`. Categories are covered too: `AVAILABILITY`, `ERROR`, `SLOWDOWN`, `RESOURCE`, `CUSTOM`. A separate path handles trending — recurring problems and history over a window.

Scope is narrow on purpose. The skill will not explain existing queries, answer product documentation questions, search logs, or do distributed tracing. Host-level resource monitoring is out as well. You need access to Dynatrace data, because the queries have nowhere to go without it.

## Requirements
- Works with: Dynatrace, Kubernetes

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-obs-problems -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dt-obs-problems/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dt-obs-problems/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-obs-problems -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dt-obs-problems/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-obs-problems -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dt-obs-problems/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai dt-obs-problems
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dt-obs-problems/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-obs-problems -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --path skills/dt-obs-problems
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dt-obs-problems/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-obs-problems -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai/tree/HEAD/skills/dt-obs-problems/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- list active problems and rank them by impact
- find the root cause entity behind a specific problem
- measure how many users a failure hit
- spot problems that keep recurring over a month
- trace what broke inside a Kubernetes environment

## Example prompts
- Show active problems from the last 2 hours, sorted by affected users
- Which entity is the root cause of P-12345 and what else did it affect?
- Are there recurring problems over the last 30 days?

# Problem Analysis Skill

Analyze Dynatrace AI-detected problems including root cause identification, impact assessment, and correlation with logs and metrics.

---

## Use Cases

### 1. Active Problem Triage
- **Goal:** List and prioritize currently active problems
- **Trigger:** "active problems", "what problems are open", "current issues", "availability issues"
- **Done:** Prioritized list of active problems with category, user impact, and display IDs

### 2. Root Cause Investigation
- **Goal:** Identify the root cause entity for a specific problem
- **Trigger:** "root cause of P-12345", "what caused this problem", "which entity is the root cause"
- **Done:** Root cause entity identified with affected entity list and blast radius

### 3. Problem Trending
- **Goal:** Analyze problem patterns over time to identify recurring issues
- **Trigger:** "recurring problems", "problem history", "problem trends last 30 days"
- **Done:** Trend data showing problem frequency, recurring root causes, and resolution times

## Overview

Dynatrace automatically detects anomalies, performance degradations, and failures across your environment, creating **problems** that aggregate related alert, warning and info-level events and provide root cause and impact insights.

### What are Problems?

Problems are automatically detected, software and infrastructure health and resilience issues that:

- **Automatically correlate** related alert, warning, and info-level events across services, infrastructure, frontend applications, and user sessions
- **Identify root causes** using causal analysis of Smartscape dependencies
- **Assess business impact** by tracking affected users and services
- **Reduce alert noise** by grouping related symptoms into single problems that share the same root cause and impact
- **Track problem lifecycle** from early detection through resolution

### Event Kinds

The `event.kind` field (stable, permission) identifies the high-level event type:
