# dt-alerting

A skill that walks the whole Dynatrace alerting lifecycle: picking an anomaly detector, storing events in Grail, grouping problems and routing notifications.

## What it does

The skill covers the full path of an alert. A `DAVIS_EVENT` starts in one of five sources: a DQL-based detector running server-side in Grail, an Edge detector on a OneAgent host, a Pipeline matcher in OpenPipeline, a Synthetic checker, or the external Events API. From there the event lands in Grail, where DQL can pull it back, and events tied to the same root cause collapse into a single problem.

Three reference files carry the detail: `references/anomaly-detectors.md`, `davis-events.md` and `workflow-notifications.md`. For any setup request the skill loads the detector guide first and only then hands over configuration steps. Models come in three flavours — static threshold, adaptive baseline, seasonal baseline. When you want alerts on several entities of the same kind, it pushes one combined detector with `by: { <dimension> }` and a shared `dt.alert_group` tag instead of a detector per entity.

Know where it stops. Merge logic is not explained here; the skill points to `dt-obs-problems` and `problem-merging.md`. Querying open or closed problems goes the same way. Wondering whether your detectors are actually running leads to `dt-platform`. If you came for problem analytics rather than alert plumbing, this is the wrong skill.

## Requirements
- Works with: Dynatrace, Slack, ServiceNow

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-alerting -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dt-alerting/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dt-alerting/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-alerting -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dt-alerting/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-alerting -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dt-alerting/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai dt-alerting
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dt-alerting/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-alerting -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --path skills/dt-alerting
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dt-alerting/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai --skill dt-alerting -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Dynatrace/dynatrace-for-ai/tree/HEAD/skills/dt-alerting/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- choose between static, adaptive and seasonal detector models
- set up one detector for several services instead of one each
- pull alert history with a query against `dt.davis.events`
- find out why two alerts merged into a single problem
- route notifications to the right team with a workflow filter

## Example prompts
- Help me set up alerting for the checkout service — which detector and which model?
- Show every alert for this service over the past week using `fetch dt.davis.events`
- Create one detector for three services and tag it `dt.alert_group: "checkout-team"`
