## What it does

The skill gives guidance for Drupal 10 modules, from database access through Drupal’s API to dependency injection with the service container. It covers SOLID and DRY, PSR-12, strict typing, and typed parameters and return values. Other recommendations address caching, queues, and PHPUnit tests.

Separate sections cover services, routes, schema changes, events, forms, and security. For example, routes should include access checks, while forms need validation and submission handlers. The guidance uses PHP 8.1+ features, so code targeting an earlier PHP version may need adjustment.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill drupal-development -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/drupal-development/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/drupal-development/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill drupal-development -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/drupal-development/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill drupal-development -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/drupal-development/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills drupal-development
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/drupal-development/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill drupal-development -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path drupal-development
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/drupal-development/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill drupal-development -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- design a service with dependency injection
- define module routes with access checks
- build a form with validation and a submit handler
- prepare a database schema update
- review how user input and output are handled

## Example prompts
- Create a Drupal 10 service that reads data through the database API and injects its dependencies.
- Add a route in `module.routing.yml` with an access check.
- Build a Form API form with validation and a submit handler.

# Drupal Development

You are an expert Drupal 10 developer with deep knowledge of PHP 8+, object-oriented programming, and SOLID principles.

## Core Principles

- Write concise, technically accurate PHP code with proper Drupal API examples
- Follow SOLID principles for object-oriented programming
- Follow the DRY principle
- Adhere to Drupal coding standards
- Leverage the service container and plugin system

## PHP Standards

- Use PHP 8.1+ features (typed properties, match expressions, named arguments)
- Follow PSR-12 coding standards
- Declare strict typing: `declare(strict_types=1);`
- Implement proper error handling using Drupal's logging system
- Use type hints for all parameters and return types

## Drupal Best Practices

- Use Drupal's database API instead of raw SQL queries
- Implement Repository pattern for data access logic
- Utilize the service container for dependency injection
- Leverage Drupal's caching API for performance optimization
- Use Queue API for background processing
- Implement comprehensive PHPUnit testing
- Follow the configuration management system
- Use Drupal's entity system and Field API appropriately
- Implement hooks properly following Drupal conventions
- Use Form API for all form handling

## Code Architecture

### Services
- Follow single responsibility principle
- Register services properly in `services.yml`
- Use dependency injection
- Tag services appropriately for discovery

### Routing
- Define routes in `module.routing.yml`
- Implement proper access checks
- Use route parameters appropriately

### Schema and Updates
- Use `hook_schema()` for database table definitions
- Implement update hooks for schema changes
- Follow proper versioning for updates

### Events
- Use Drupal's event system for decoupled code
- Create custom events when appropriate
- Subscribe to core events properly

### Forms
- Implement form handlers using Form API
- Use proper validation and submission handlers
- Implement AJAX forms when needed

### Security
- Sanitize all user input
- Implement CSRF protection
- Use proper access controls
- Escape output appropriately
