## What it does

The skill injects reference guides for `drizzle-orm` and migration setup with `drizzle-kit` directly into agent context. It supplies column mapping tables for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite alongside inference patterns via `$inferSelect` and `$inferInsert`.

Predefined templates demonstrate one-to-many and many-to-many relationships configured through the `relations()` function. It also covers select filters like `eq`, `ilike`, and `inArray`, joins with aggregation, and pagination controls. Queries mirror standard SQL structure.

Database drivers remain a separate dependency. Without installing `pg`, `mysql2`, or `better-sqlite3`, the generated drizzle client cannot connect to your storage.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill drizzle -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/drizzle/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/drizzle/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill drizzle -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/drizzle/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill drizzle -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/drizzle/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills drizzle
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/drizzle/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill drizzle -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/typescript/data/drizzle
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/drizzle/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill drizzle -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- define typed table schemas for PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQLite
- configure one-to-many and many-to-many relationships with `relations()`
- construct filtered queries using `eq`, `ilike`, or `inArray` operators
- assemble joined queries with sorting and pagination helpers

## Example prompts
- Define a PostgreSQL users table schema with id, email, and timestamps in Drizzle.
- Set up a one-to-many relationship between authors and posts using relations().
- Write a joined query with author post counts using innerJoin and groupBy.

# Drizzle ORM

Modern TypeScript-first ORM with zero dependencies, compile-time type safety, and SQL-like syntax. Optimized for edge runtimes and serverless environments.

## Quick Start

### Installation

```bash
# Core ORM
npm install drizzle-orm
# Database driver (choose one)
npm install pg            # PostgreSQL
npm install mysql2        # MySQL
npm install better-sqlite3 # SQLite
# Drizzle Kit (migrations)
npm install -D drizzle-kit
```

### Basic Setup

```typescript
// db/schema.ts
import { pgTable, serial, text, timestamp } from 'drizzle-orm/pg-core';
export const users = pgTable('users', {
  id: serial('id').primaryKey(),
  email: text('email').notNull().unique(),
  name: text('name').notNull(),
  createdAt: timestamp('created_at').defaultNow(),
});
// db/client.ts
import { drizzle } from 'drizzle-orm/node-postgres';
import { Pool } from 'pg';
import * as schema from './schema';
const pool = new Pool({ connectionString: process.env.DATABASE_URL });
export const db = drizzle(pool, { schema });
```

### First Query

```typescript
import { db } from './db/client';
import { users } from './db/schema';
import { eq } from 'drizzle-orm';
// Insert
const newUser = await db.insert(users).values({
  email: 'user@example.com',
  name: 'John Doe',
}).returning();
// Select
const allUsers = await db.select().from(users);
// Where
const user = await db.select().from(users).where(eq(users.id, 1));
// Update
await db.update(users).set({ name: 'Jane Doe' }).where(eq(users.id, 1));
// Delete
await db.delete(users).where(eq(users.id, 1));
```

## Schema Definition

### Column Types Reference

| PostgreSQL | MySQL | SQLite | TypeScript |
|------------|-------|--------|------------|
| `serial()` | `serial()` | `integer()` | `number` |
| `text()` | `text()` | `text()` | `string` |
| `integer()` | `int()` | `integer()` | `number` |
| `boolean()` | `boolean()` | `integer()` | `boolean` |
| `timestamp()` | `datetime()` | `integer()` | `Date` |
| `json()` | `json()` | `text()` | `unknown` |
| `uuid()` | `varchar(36)` | `text()` | `string` |

### Common Schema Patterns

```typescript
import { pgTable, serial, text, varchar, integer, boolean, timestamp, json, unique } from 'drizzle-orm/pg-core';
export const users = pgTable('users', {
  id: serial('id').primaryKey(),
  email: varchar('email', { length: 255 }).notNull().unique(),
