## What it does

The `/legal-clinic:draft eviction-answer` command assembles a first pass of a clinic document from case notes and practice templates: an eviction answer, a protective order petition, a demand letter, a client declaration. Students spend their time on prose and strategy rather than on rebuilding a caption.

It reads `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-clinic/CLAUDE.md` for the template set, state and court, local rules, supervision style. Missing facts stay missing. They get `[FACT NEEDED]`, contested assertions get `[VERIFY]`, and the skill's own doubts get `[UNCERTAIN]`. Output carries an AI-assisted label and a review checklist.

Caption format and service requirements follow the court. When local rules were not loaded, the skill falls back to the state default and marks the caption `[VERIFY CAPTION]`, which is your cue to check the court's current rules before anyone signs. Court filings route to the supervisor before filing either way.

## Install

```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill draft -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/draft/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/draft/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill draft -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/draft/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill draft -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/draft/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/claude-for-legal draft
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

## When to use it
- turn intake notes into a first draft eviction answer
- mark missing facts in a client declaration before the interview
- match caption and service rules to a specific court
- hand a supervisor a document with a review checklist attached
- draft a demand letter for a deposit or repair dispute

## Example prompts
- \`/legal-clinic:draft eviction-answer` for the matter in `cases/notes.md`
- \`/legal-clinic:draft asylum-declaration`, pull the facts from `intake/client.md`
- \`/legal-clinic:draft demand-letter`: we want the deposit back, details are in the notes

# Draft: First-Draft Document Generation

## Purpose

Students spend enormous time on first drafts of documents where the educational value is in the analysis and strategy, not in formatting a caption or writing "Dear Judge." This skill produces the first draft from case notes and practice-area templates so the student's time goes to the thinking.

**Every draft is explicitly a starting point.** Not final work product. The student analyzes, revises, and the professor reviews before anything goes anywhere.

## Load context

`~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-clinic/CLAUDE.md` → practice areas, practice-area templates, jurisdiction (state + local court + any local rules ingested), supervision style.

Case notes or intake summary for the facts.

## Pedagogy check

Read the supervisor guide for this practice area at `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-clinic/guides/<practice-area>.md`. Check the `pedagogy_posture` setting:

- **`guide` (default):** Produce the structure and the checklist. Ask the student to draft each section. Give feedback on their draft (register, reading level, required elements, what they missed). Offer to fill a section only when the student has tried once.
- **`assist`:** Produce the work product. Flag items for student review. The student edits and learns by reviewing.
- **`teach`:** Don't produce the work product. Ask the student to draft it. Give feedback. Ask leading questions when they're stuck. Only show a model paragraph after two attempts, and only the section they're stuck on. Track what they got right and wrong so the supervisor can see progress.
