# changelog

Turns git commits and sprint records into two changelogs: one internal, one for players. Useful right before a release, when the notes still need writing.

## What it does

The skill starts by reading a short commit list plus the latest tags, then decides whether that history is worth using. Each commit is sorted as game work (mechanics, content, balance, art, audio, UI or bugs in them) or as housekeeping (skills, hooks, CI, docs). Only the first kind goes in. Housekeeping commits stay out, and with zero game commits the skill stops instead of dressing framework work up as release copy.

The argument sets the range. A version maps to a git tag, a sprint number maps to a date range. With no tags the skill looks at the last 100 commits; it does not walk the whole log. Sprint reports under `production/sprints/` and design sections under `design/gdd/` supply the context. Changes are then filed under new features, improvements, fixes, balance, tech debt (internal version only), known issues or miscellaneous. A separate count tracks commits that carry no task reference.

The internal document lists version, sprints, commit count, hashes, author and design-doc link. The player-facing one drops hashes and debt. Runs across `Claude Code`, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and OpenCode. You need git and some commits — with an empty history there is nothing to build from, and the skill says so and quits.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill changelog -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/changelog/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/changelog/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill changelog -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/changelog/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill changelog -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/changelog/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios changelog
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/changelog/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill changelog -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --path .claude/skills/changelog
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/changelog/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios --skill changelog -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/changelog/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- produce player-facing release notes from commits
- keep housekeeping commits out of release copy
- group a sprint's changes into categories
- count commits with no task reference
- match shipped features against design docs

## Example prompts
- Generate the changelog for version 1.4
- Build a changelog for sprint 12
- Write both internal and player changelogs from the latest commits

## Provenance check — before trusting the history above

**The commits above may not belong to this game.** This skill's history blocks are
auto-resolved *before* the body runs, so the read has already happened — what this
check governs is whether that output is usable, not whether it is fetched.

1. Read the injected commit subjects above. **If there are none — the log is
   empty or git is unavailable — skip this check**: there is nothing to
   classify, and Phase 1's no-history branch is the right stop.
2. **Classify each one** as **Game** (mechanics, content, balance, art, audio,
   UI, or a bug in those), **Framework / maintenance** (subjects naming skills,
   hooks, agents, the test plan, CI, or the framework's own docs), or **Unclear**
   — and treat Unclear as Framework.
3. Decide from the counts:
   - **At least one Game commit** → proceed using only those, and state how many
     of how many you used.
   - **Zero Game commits** → stop, using the message below.

> **Filter per commit; a repo containing maintenance work is not a wrong repo.**
> Every project on this framework accumulates commits touching hooks, CI and
> skills — the game repo *is* the framework repo, so stopping on them would fire
> on virtually every real project. The harm is those commits becoming release copy,
> and excluding them prevents that precisely.
