## What it does

The skill lays out the page structure: a billboard-scale positioning line with minimal navigation, black chapters for selected work, a sparse white chapter on how the studio thinks, a documentary collage as a paced process story, testimonials, and a short FAQ before an oversized footer wordmark. Type carries the hierarchy; real project imagery carries the proof.

Inside are rules for the visual system and layout. Two faces: one compressed display and one neutral grotesk. Hard black and warm white, with occasional pale mint or pink proof surfaces. Grid lines stay exposed, corners stay square, no glass or gradients. The collage runs on CSS Grid: every image box is reserved before media loads, DOM order matches narrative order, parallax is capped below 5%, and captions appear on both hover and focus.

Menu and FAQ controls use semantic buttons and native `details`/`summary`, with `aria-expanded` kept in sync and focus trapped only inside a true modal menu. Motion defaults are 160–220ms for controls and 500–760ms for masks and section entrances. The skill explicitly rules out invented projects, clients and awards, so source names, quotes and links have to be replaced with your own. Validation happens in DOM order with CSS and motion disabled, plus headline wrapping checks at 320px, tablet, desktop and 200% zoom.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill documentary-brutalist-agency -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/documentary-brutalist-agency/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/documentary-brutalist-agency/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill documentary-brutalist-agency -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/documentary-brutalist-agency/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill documentary-brutalist-agency -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/documentary-brutalist-agency/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install MengTo/Skills documentary-brutalist-agency
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/documentary-brutalist-agency/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill documentary-brutalist-agency -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/MengTo/Skills --path agent-skills/web-design/documentary-brutalist-agency
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/documentary-brutalist-agency/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MengTo/Skills --skill documentary-brutalist-agency -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- build a creative agency site with billboard typography
- rework a studio portfolio into hard black-and-white chapters
- lay out a documentary collage that keeps narrative DOM order
- add an accessible FAQ and a brutalist button-based menu
- check the layout with motion disabled and at 200% zoom

## Example prompts
- Build a homepage for an architecture studio in documentary brutalist style: billboard headline, black chapters with projects, a white chapter on the approach
- Make a documentary collage from site photos, parallax under 5%, captions on hover and focus
- Rework the menu and FAQ onto semantic buttons and `details`/`summary`, check focus and `aria-expanded`

# Documentary Brutalist Agency

Use hard typography to establish a point of view, then let real project imagery carry the proof.

## Establish the Story

1. Open with a billboard-scale positioning line and minimal navigation.
2. Cut directly into selected work on black.
3. Use a sparse white philosophy chapter to explain how the studio thinks.
4. Build one documentary collage as a paced process story.
5. Add verified testimonials or updates on pale proof surfaces.
6. Resolve objections in a minimal FAQ before the oversized footer wordmark.

Replace source names, projects, people, photography, quotes, claims, and links. Use original or licensed documentary material.

## Build the Visual System

- Use hard black and warm white with occasional pale mint or pink proof surfaces.
- Pair one compressed display face with one neutral grotesk.
- Expose grid lines, use square corners, and avoid glass, glow, and decorative gradients.
- Let type and photography create hierarchy; keep icons and ornament minimal.
- Use line breaks as composition. Test them at every breakpoint.
- Maintain strong contrast without making every element equally loud.

## Compose the Page

- Header: use a compact identity, current section, and a decisive menu trigger.
- Hero: set one compressed headline near billboard scale; keep supporting copy small.
- Work: use black chapters with large titles, role labels, and documentary media.
- Philosophy: cut to warm white with fewer words and more breathing room.
- Collage: vary image scale and alignment while preserving narrative DOM order.
- Testimonials: use pale proof cards only for verified quotes.
