## What it does

The skill activates when the agent touches containers: Dockerfile review, running as non-root, read-only rootfs and tmpfs mounts, dropping capabilities with `--cap-drop ALL`, seccomp and AppArmor profiles, image scanning (Docker Scout, Trivy, Grype), signed images and SBOM, secrets via Docker secrets and BuildKit `--secret`, network segmentation, and CIS Docker Benchmark compliance.

It ships a hardening checklist, scan-tool integration recipes, CIS benchmark mapping, secret handling patterns, and a capability-drop reference. Longer recipes live in `references/build-runtime-security.md` — build secrets, multi-stage hardening, seccomp/AppArmor/SELinux, rootless runtime. If that file is missing from your project, the agent cannot open those recipes, so it is worth checking that the skill installed in full and not just `SKILL.md`.

The skill sits on top of Docker and does not replace scanners: Docker Scout, Trivy and Grype have to be present separately. Verifying signed images needs `DOCKER_CONTENT_TRUST=1`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Docker

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill docker-security-guide -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/docker-security-guide/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/docker-security-guide/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill docker-security-guide -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/docker-security-guide/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill docker-security-guide -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/docker-security-guide/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace docker-security-guide
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/docker-security-guide/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill docker-security-guide -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --path plugins/docker-master/skills/docker-security-guide
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/docker-security-guide/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill docker-security-guide -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace/tree/HEAD/plugins/docker-master/skills/docker-security-guide/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check a Dockerfile for secrets leaking into layers
- run a container as non-root with a read-only rootfs
- drop all capabilities and add back only what is needed
- wire image scanning into CI and fail on CRITICAL
- isolate a database on an internal Compose network

## Example prompts
- review my Dockerfile for security issues and show what to fix
- set up this container to run as non-root with a read-only rootfs
- add a Trivy scan step to GitHub Actions that fails on CRITICAL

## 🚨 CRITICAL GUIDELINES

### Windows File Path Requirements

**MANDATORY: Always Use Backslashes on Windows for File Paths**

When using Edit or Write tools on Windows, you MUST use backslashes (`\`) in file paths, NOT forward slashes (`/`).

**Examples:**
- ❌ WRONG: `D:/repos/project/file.tsx`
- ✅ CORRECT: `D:\repos\project\file.tsx`

This applies to:
- Edit tool file_path parameter
- Write tool file_path parameter
- All file operations on Windows systems

### Documentation Guidelines

**NEVER create new documentation files unless explicitly requested by the user.**

- **Priority**: Update existing README.md files rather than creating new documentation
- **Repository cleanliness**: Keep repository root clean - only README.md unless user requests otherwise
- **Style**: Documentation should be concise, direct, and professional - avoid AI-generated tone
- **User preference**: Only create additional .md files when user specifically asks for documentation

# Docker Security Guide

This skill provides comprehensive security guidelines for Docker across all platforms, covering threats, mitigations, and compliance requirements.

## Security Principles

### Defense in Depth

Apply security at multiple layers:
1. **Image security:** Minimal, scanned, signed images
2. **Build security:** Secure build process, no secrets in layers
3. **Runtime security:** Restricted capabilities, resource limits
4. **Network security:** Isolation, least privilege
5. **Host security:** Hardened host OS, updated Docker daemon
6. **Orchestration security:** Secure configuration, RBAC
