# disk-cleaner

A skill that scans disk usage, finds duplicates and junk, and cleans caches — all from the agent chat. Useful when a drive fills up and you need to know why.

## What it does

The skill hands your agent a set of Python scripts for disk work. `analyze_disk.py` measures folder sizes with smart sampling, while `analyze_progressive.py` handles large drives in stages: a one-second estimate first, then partial results. There is `find_duplicates.py` for duplicate detection, `analyze_growth.py` for usage trends, `clean_disk.py` for junk removal, and `interactive_wizard.py` for guided cleanup with confirmations.

Python 3.7 is required. Nothing goes through pip: the skill locates its own modules across 20+ paths and imports them, and you can override the location with the `DISK_CLEANER_SKILL_PATH` environment variable. Script output stays ASCII-only (`[OK]`, `[X]`) so it survives Windows consoles using GBK. Edit that output to add emoji and cross-platform compatibility breaks — worth remembering before you patch the scripts.

Cleaning runs with `--dry-run` by default, and system directories and executables are protected from deletion. Large drives get `--deep-scan` for unlimited scanning and `--include-windows` for Windows system folders. Run `check_skill.py` to confirm everything works.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-agent-power/oh-my-disk-cleaner --skill disk-cleaner -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/disk-cleaner/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/disk-cleaner/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-agent-power/oh-my-disk-cleaner --skill disk-cleaner -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/disk-cleaner/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-agent-power/oh-my-disk-cleaner --skill disk-cleaner -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/disk-cleaner/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install open-agent-power/oh-my-disk-cleaner disk-cleaner
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/disk-cleaner/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-agent-power/oh-my-disk-cleaner --skill disk-cleaner -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/open-agent-power/oh-my-disk-cleaner --path skills/disk-cleaner
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/disk-cleaner/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-agent-power/oh-my-disk-cleaner --skill disk-cleaner -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/open-agent-power/oh-my-disk-cleaner/tree/HEAD/skills/disk-cleaner/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- estimate how long a full disk scan will take
- find duplicate files and decide which copies to drop
- see which folders eat the most space in a project
- clear caches and junk without deleting needed files
- predict when a drive will run out of room

## Example prompts
- scan my disk and show what takes the most space
- find duplicate files in my Downloads folder
- clean the cache, but show me what will be deleted first

# Disk Cleaner Skill - Complete Feature Guide for All Agents

## 🚨 IMPORTANT: Emoji Usage Policy

### For Script Output (Cross-Platform Safety)
- **NEVER use emoji in script output** - All scripts use ASCII-safe characters
- Scripts use: `[OK]`, `[X]`, `[!]`, `[*]`, `[i]`, `[DIR]`, `[FILE]`, `[PKG]`, `[x]`
- This ensures compatibility with Windows GBK and other non-UTF-8 consoles
- **DO NOT modify script output to add emoji** - This will break cross-platform compatibility

### For Agent-to-Human Communication (Recommended)
- **SHOULD use emoji when reporting results to humans** - Makes output more readable
- Use these emoji in your final reports to users:
  - `✅` (Success) - Completed operations, successful scans
  - `❌` (Error) - Failed operations, critical errors
  - `⚠️` (Warning) - Warnings, issues that need attention
  - `🔍` (Scanning) - Search/scan operations
  - `📊` (Statistics) - Analysis results, statistics
  - `📁` (Directory) - Directory-related information
  - `📦` (Package) - Package/module information
  - `🎉` (Success) - Celebratory messages for successful completion
  - `🚨` (Critical) - Critical warnings
  - `💡` (Tip) - Suggestions, recommendations
  - `📋` (List) - Checklists, summaries
  - `🔧` (Tool) - Tools, utilities
  - `🌐` (Global) - Cross-platform, universal features
  - `🛡️` (Safety) - Safety-related information
  - `⚡` (Performance) - Performance improvements
  - `📝` (Document) - Documentation
  - `🎓` (Learning) - Educational content
