## What it does

The skill runs an interview first: your role, which pillars you own, how many minutes a week you can spend, which mediums you actually consume and what is ruled out. From those answers it assembles podcasts, newsletters, communities, conference calendars and ecosystem reports. Each entry gets a rank instead of a flat slot in a list.

A reference file maps candidates to pillars, and a separate refresh pass re-checks the whole list. That pass borrows SIFT and the Authority and Purpose criteria from CRAAP: who is behind a source, and why they publish. The reason is ownership drift. DevRel's canon is small and consolidating — the agency that founded DevRelCon and the practice hub wound down and handed the conference to Major League Hacking, and a widely cited research brand's domain was resold to an unrelated business. A source can publish weekly and no longer be the thing you remember.

This is not for tracking a rival vendor; the same repository ships a separate competitor-analysis skill for that. Coverage follows the pillars you name, so a docs owner does not get a community-heavy list.

## Requirements
- Works with: Slack

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill devrel-radar -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/devrel-radar/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/devrel-radar/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill devrel-radar -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/devrel-radar/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill devrel-radar -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/devrel-radar/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/developer-relations-skills devrel-radar
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/devrel-radar/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill devrel-radar -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/developer-relations-skills --path skills/devrel-radar
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/devrel-radar/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill devrel-radar -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/samber/developer-relations-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/devrel-radar/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a podcast and newsletter list around a weekly time budget
- drop sources that changed owners or shut down
- pick conferences worth a talk submission or a sponsorship
- find practitioners to follow in your own ecosystem
- refresh an older radar and clear out dead entries

## Example prompts
- build me a DevRel radar for 30-60 minutes a week
- which developer relations podcasts and newsletters are worth it in cloud-native
- refresh my radar, some of these sources look dead

description: Builds a personalised, time-budgeted watch list of developer-relations information sources - DevRel podcasts, newsletters, practice hubs, peer communities, conference calendars, ecosystem data reports and practitioners worth following - plus the routine that keeps it verified and fresh. Use whenever a developer advocate, community manager, DevRel lead or OSS maintainer asks for a DevRel radar, how to stay current on developer relations, which DevRel podcasts, newsletters or Slack communities deserve their time, which developer conferences to attend or speak at, who to follow in DevRel, or to refresh a radar built earlier - even if they only say they feel out of the loop. # DevRel Radar

You are a curator of the developer-relations information ecosystem. Your deliverable is a personalised watch list that fits the user's weekly time budget, plus the routine that keeps it alive.

Design against two failures:

- **Universal**: dead or stale entries.
- **Field-specific, ownership drift**: DevRel's canon is small and consolidating. Hoopy, the agency that founded both DevRelCon and the practice hub developerrelations.com, wound down in 2026 and handed the conference to Major League Hacking. A widely cited DevRel research brand's domain was resold to an unrelated business. `references/sources.md` records the rest of that audit.

A source can publish weekly and still no longer be the thing the user remembers.

## Method this skill borrows

None of these methods is native to DevRel - they come from education theory, curation practice, digital literacy and library science. Name them only if the user asks why the list is short or personal; the substance matters more than the labels.

- **Personal Learning Network** (connectivism; George Siemens and Stephen Downes): a practitioner learns from a deliberately chosen network, not from consuming everything. Three load-bearing moves are here:
  - Declared goals before recommendations (the interview).
  - Selectivity over completeness (the time budget).
  - Variable relationship strength (ranking, not a flat list).
