## What it does

This skill guides coding assistants through six incident response phases: preparation, detection, containment, eradication, recovery, and lessons learned. It provides a triage framework categorizing events from P1 (under 15 minutes response) down to P4, ensuring urgent breaches get immediate attention.

Included bash templates handle forensic evidence collection directly on compromised Linux hosts. The `linux-evidence-collect.sh` script logs running processes, network sockets via `ss`, user login records, SUID files, systemd timers, and sha256 checksums, while a secondary script automates volatile memory acquisition using LiME.

Forensic scripts require `sudo` privileges and a compiled `lime.ko` kernel module, so memory capture fails without prior preparation on the target host. You also need an out-of-band communication channel and chain-of-custody storage ready before an actual intrusion occurs.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill incident-response -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/incident-response/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/incident-response/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill incident-response -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/incident-response/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill incident-response -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/incident-response/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills incident-response
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/incident-response/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill incident-response -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path security/operations/incident-response
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/incident-response/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill incident-response -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- collect forensic evidence and system logs from an affected Linux server
- classify security alerts by severity from P1 to P4 with target response times
- isolate compromised network hosts and rotate exposed credentials
- conduct a post-incident review and reconstruct attack timelines within 72 hours

## Example prompts
- Help triage an unauthorized administrative login on our production database
- Generate a Linux evidence collection script before we isolate the infected host
- Build a containment and recovery checklist for a ransomware security event

# Incident Response

Handle security incidents effectively with structured response procedures.

## When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when:
- Responding to an active security incident (breach, malware, unauthorized access)
- Building incident response playbooks and runbooks
- Conducting IR tabletop exercises and drills
- Setting up evidence collection and forensic capabilities
- Establishing communication protocols for security events
- Performing post-incident reviews and process improvements

## Prerequisites

- IR team roster with on-call rotation and escalation paths
- Secure communication channel (separate from production systems)
- Forensic workstation with analysis tools installed
- Evidence storage with chain-of-custody controls
- Legal counsel contact information
- Pre-authorized incident response actions documented

## Incident Response Phases

```yaml
phases:
  1_preparation:
    - IR team roster and 24/7 contact info
    - Tools and privileged access ready
    - Playbooks documented and tested
    - Evidence collection kit prepared
    - Communication templates drafted
  2_detection:
    - Alert triage and validation
    - Initial assessment and scoping
    - Severity classification
    - Incident ticket creation
  3_containment:
    - Short-term containment (stop bleeding)
    - Evidence preservation (before changes)
    - System isolation (network/host level)
    - Credential rotation if needed
  4_eradication:
    - Root cause analysis
    - Remove threat actor access
    - Patch exploited vulnerabilities
    - Clean compromised systems
  5_recovery:
    - System restoration from clean backups
    - Enhanced monitoring deployment
    - Phased return to production
    - Business continuity verification
  6_lessons_learned:
    - Post-incident review (within 72 hours)
    - Timeline reconstruction
    - Documentation update
    - Process and detection improvements
```

## Severity Classification

| Level | Impact | Response Time | Examples |
|-------|--------|---------------|----------|
| Critical (P1) | Active data breach, full outage, ransomware | Immediate (< 15 min) | Data exfiltration in progress, ransomware spreading |
