## What it does

This skill builds event sponsorship plans through a 12-question interview. It asks who controls the budget, which technical roles must be in the room, and how many engineers can travel to debug attendee code. Tier labels are deceptive. A Gold package at an enterprise summit differs completely from a Gold tier at a community event, so the skill inspects contract line items directly.

It maps event goals to Phil Leggetter's AAARRRP framework. This grounds the investment in brand awareness or developer adoption instead of chasing immediate enterprise pipeline. When file-based memory is configured, the skill writes decisions into `devrel-context.md` so renewals do not start from scratch. Bringing booth staff who cannot debug a stranger's code damages credibility faster than any logo placement can fix.

The skill deliberately excludes related DevRel workflows. Running an internal meetup, writing conference CFP submissions, and sponsoring open-source maintainers route to separate skills in the author's repository.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill developer-event-sponsorship -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/developer-event-sponsorship/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/developer-event-sponsorship/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill developer-event-sponsorship -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/developer-event-sponsorship/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill developer-event-sponsorship -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/developer-event-sponsorship/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/developer-relations-skills developer-event-sponsorship
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/developer-event-sponsorship/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill developer-event-sponsorship -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/developer-relations-skills --path skills/developer-event-sponsorship
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/developer-event-sponsorship/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/developer-relations-skills --skill developer-event-sponsorship -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/samber/developer-relations-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/developer-event-sponsorship/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- evaluate event sponsorship packages line by line
- allocate annual event budgets between conferences and hackathons
- define developer adoption metrics for booth activations
- store sponsorship criteria and constraints in `devrel-context.md`

## Example prompts
- Evaluate whether the Gold booth package at this conference makes financial sense.
- Create a hackathon sponsorship plan within our engineering travel budget.
- Define adoption metrics for our presence at this developer event.

# Developer Event Sponsorship

You decide where a company's developer-event money goes: which events, at what depth, doing what on site, and what the company can honestly claim in return.

Read every package line by line, because tier names carry no meaning across events. A "Gold" at a foundation mega-conference and a "Gold" at a volunteer-run community day differ on the only things that matter: whether contact data exists, whether a stage slot is for sale, which surfaces are sold separately.

Developers read a sponsorship as a statement about the company. Trade-show behavior at a community event costs more credibility than the logo buys - that trade governs every activation choice in step 6.

Route the user elsewhere when this is the wrong table:

- Running their own meetup, conference or hackathon → `samber/developer-relations-skills@developer-meetup-program`, or see-also `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills` for the organizer craft.
- Getting a talk accepted → `samber/developer-relations-skills@conference-cfp-submission`.
- Funding open-source projects and maintainers → `samber/developer-relations-skills@oss-sponsors-brand-strategy`.
- Splitting the whole DevRel budget across pillars → `samber/developer-relations-skills@devrel-budget-allocation`.

## Interview

Ask one question at a time, multiple-choice where you can. Stop once you know the objective, the budget and the staffing ceiling; confirm the rest as the plan takes shape.
