## What it does

The skill walks a hiring manager through the work in order. It asks one question at a time, then produces the artefacts. The scorecard is calibrated to operating context — in-house, agency, non-profit community or a standing conference business. A community-manager-shaped role uses CMX's five competencies; a producer or manager role follows the general event-planner sequence. The loop includes a paid mini-audit as a work sample.

It also flags the consolidation pattern where one hire is expected to own sponsorship, content and production at once. That shows up in postings, and it is a reason to check whether the role actually gets people and budget. Candidates come from general event-industry boards, because no tech-specific one exists. On pay, the skill insists on a named source — PCMA, BLS or Glassdoor — instead of one blended figure.

There is a gate before any of this. For a non-profit or community-run event, the first paid hire usually appears once the event crosses roughly low-thousands of attendees or a six-figure budget. Below that, the real question is whether to hire at all, and that belongs to a different skill. Candidate prep and team org design are also handled elsewhere in the same collection.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill dev-event-hiring -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dev-event-hiring/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dev-event-hiring/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill dev-event-hiring -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dev-event-hiring/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill dev-event-hiring -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dev-event-hiring/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills dev-event-hiring
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dev-event-hiring/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill dev-event-hiring -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/dev-event-hiring
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dev-event-hiring/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill dev-event-hiring -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- build a scorecard for a specific employer type
- design an interview loop without dead stages
- spot an overloaded role in a posting
- find boards to source candidates from
- justify a salary range with a named source

## Example prompts
- Help me hire a conference producer for an in-house team
- Draft a scorecard for an event manager at an agency
- Write a posting for a meetup coordinator at a non-profit event

description: Employer-side hiring for tech-event-organizing roles - producer/manager/coordinator, and the community-manager-shaped end of the field. Calibrates the scorecard to operating context (in-house, agency, non-profit/community, or a standing conference business), builds the loop from the general event-planner sequence plus CMX's five-competency set and paid mini-audit work sample, flags the "one hire owns sponsorship, content and production" consolidation pattern seen in postings, sources candidates from general event-industry boards since no tech-specific one exists, and gates compensation on named sources (PCMA, BLS, Glassdoor) rather than a blended figure. Use when the user asks how to hire an event producer or manager, write a posting, design a loop, or hire an event community manager. Do NOT use for candidate prep (samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@dev-event-career) or team org design (samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-team-structure).

# Dev Event Hiring

Build the artefacts a hiring manager needs to recruit a tech-event-organizing role: a scorecard calibrated to operating context, an interview loop assembled from the field's real (if partial) evidence, a sourcing plan, and a compensation stance that names its source instead of blending numbers.

Out of scope, hand off instead:

- **Coaching the candidate** - samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@dev-event-career is the mirror image of this skill.
- **The standing organizing team's own structure** - legal entity, decision rights, succession, the volunteer-to-paid threshold - samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-team-structure. Route "should we hire our first paid role at all" there; this skill answers "how do we hire well, once we've decided to."

If the user is job-hunting rather than hiring, say so in one line and route them to dev-event-career.

**Not this skill: hiring requests that reach organizers from their audience.** Organizers report a constant stream of "can you introduce me to..." and "do you know someone to hire..." requests from attendees and local companies. Those are not the organizing team's own hires. Route them to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-community-building` § Recruiting requests, which gives them a bounded outlet so the community does not drift into a job board.
