## What it does

The skill drives the migration step by step. First you run `npx @salesforce-ux/slds-linter@latest lint --fix .` — that pass is mandatory and clears the simple violations on its own. Then you read the linter report and fix what is left by hand, using a reference guide per rule.

Four violation types are covered: `slds/no-hardcoded-values-slds2`, `slds/lwc-token-to-slds-hook`, `slds/no-slds-class-overrides` and `slds/no-deprecated-tokens-slds1`. One rule applies everywhere: the SLDS 2 hook goes first and the original value stays as the fallback — `var(--slds-g-hook, originalValue)`. Class overrides need edits in both CSS and markup, because the component-prefixed class is added alongside the `slds-*` class, never instead of it. That is the step people skip most often.

For color, the linter prints candidate hooks in no particular order. Do not take the first one: the color decision guide maps hooks to CSS properties, so read it before picking. Spacing, sizing, typography, borders and shadows are simpler — value-to-hook lookup tables cover them. You need Node.js 14.x or higher and access to your `.html` and `.cmp` files. Commit before a bulk rewrite.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill design-systems-slds2-migrate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/design-systems-slds2-migrate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/design-systems-slds2-migrate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill design-systems-slds2-migrate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/design-systems-slds2-migrate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill design-systems-slds2-migrate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/design-systems-slds2-migrate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills design-systems-slds2-migrate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/design-systems-slds2-migrate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill design-systems-slds2-migrate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/design-systems-slds2-migrate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/design-systems-slds2-migrate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill design-systems-slds2-migrate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/design-systems-slds2-migrate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- run the SLDS linter across component CSS and markup
- swap deprecated `--lwc-*` tokens for SLDS 2 hooks
- strip hardcoded colors, spacing and shadows from LWC styles
- move `slds-*` class overrides into your own namespace
- pick the right color hook for a given CSS property

## Example prompts
- run the SLDS linter and fix the violations in this component
- replace `--lwc-colorBackground` with the SLDS 2 hook and keep the fallback
- I override `.slds-button` — rewrite it as a component class

description: "Migrate Lightning Web Components from SLDS 1 to SLDS 2 by running the SLDS linter and fixing violations. Use this skill whenever users mention SLDS 2, SLDS uplift, linter violations, LWC token migration, class overrides, hardcoded CSS values that need SLDS hook replacement, or styling hook selection. Covers all styling hook categories — color, spacing, sizing, typography, borders, radius, and shadows. Also use when users mention no-hardcoded-values, no-slds-class-overrides, lwc-to-slds-hooks, no-deprecated-tokens-slds1, or ask about SLDS component migration — even if they don't explicitly say \"uplift\" or \"migration\"."

# Goal

Systematically migrate Lightning Web Components from SLDS 1 to SLDS 2 using the SLDS linter and structured guidance for fixing violations across all styling hook categories.

## SLDS 2 Styling Hook Categories

| Category | Hook Prefix | What It Replaces |
|---|---|---|
| Color | `--slds-g-color-*` | Hardcoded colors, `--lwc-color*` tokens |
| Spacing | `--slds-g-spacing-*` | Hardcoded margins, padding, gaps |
| Sizing | `--slds-g-sizing-*` | Hardcoded widths, heights, dimensions |
| Typography | `--slds-g-font-*` | Hardcoded font sizes, weights, line heights |
| Border/Radius | `--slds-g-radius-border-*`, `--slds-g-sizing-border-*` | Hardcoded border-radius, border-width |
| Shadow | `--slds-g-shadow-*` | Hardcoded box-shadow values |

Color hooks require the most judgment (context-dependent selection). Non-color hooks are mostly numbered scales with straightforward mappings.

## Prerequisites

- Node.js 14.x or higher installed
- Access to component CSS and markup files (`.html` for LWC, `.cmp` for Aura)
- Terminal/command line access to run linter
- Git repository for backup (recommended)

# Workflow

```text
1. **REQUIRED — ALWAYS run first:** npx @salesforce-ux/slds-linter@latest lint --fix . — NEVER skip this step. This handles simple violations automatically.
2. Review linter output -> Identify remaining manual fixes needed
3. Fix by violation type -> Use per-rule reference guides
